WTF has that got to do with charges for misleading and deceptive conduct?

Ironic because VF was prosecuted because of misleading advertising way back when prepay came out by saying words to the effect of "you'll never have to pay any money ever again if you don't want to". Apparently, some people got prepay accounts with balances that never expire out of that one, but I may be wrong.

Are you saying if you live in areas "that don't matter" we should just be forgotten about?

Myself and I think the one other bloke that uses the 3G extended service in Gore are very happy with the speed...

Then Vodafone should phase out the GSM network then.

It would be a hell of a issue capacity wise getting a 900Mhz to work in a area that needs high capacity (that is why they have 2100Mhz). This will mean more cell towers, residents annoyed, etc.....

Why would they want to phase it out?

I also don't see how deploying 900 in the major cities wouldn't mean any more sites or annoyed residents - all existing 900/1800 GSM sites could easily be upgraded with new panels in the same way all the rural 900 sites have been upgraded. The only challenge is spectrum management which becomes less of an issue as more people buy 3G handsets.

97% 3G...Yeah Right.

I remember the coverage maps for 3G only a year ago, there were tiny pinpricks on a map in the three main centres, simply driving between cell sites it dropped down to 2G, and back up again...dropping calls along the way. They couldn't even keep TXT messages flowing, and even six months ago they were pulling down the whole IP core, or 3G in huge sections of Auckland for up to a day at a time and telling everyone to go back to 2G. If there was 3G coverage it was flaky, badly rolled out, under funded and hopelessly oversubscribed.

And even if you had 3G signal, and the network was UP a huge chunk of the backhaul was not upgraded so it was still as slow as dialup, you only need to check the forums here to see that more than enough people had problems. I myself had horrific experiences on their third world network.

Even a year after the iPhone 3G launch I couldn't get more than 2-3 times dialup in Newmarket, Parnell, North Shore, Albany and Mission Bay and thats just from memory. I logged every call with Vodafone and they did nothing except continued to charge excessive amounts of money until Telecom stepped up with a actual 3G network with real backhaul and no backfill coverage issues and then Vodafone was forced to compete on technical merits instead of through witty yet horrifically false advertising. Telecom's not innocent either, look at Go Large. Don't think I'm defending them either

I say good on the commerce commissioner for not putting up with this rubbish, how many times can you lie in your advertising and then say oops, sorry, didn't check that fact too close. Punish them all to the full extent of the law. Make the fines so big someone will notice.
