timbo: So a WiMax operator needs to be able to build a business case based on just being a 'pipe' - and forget about offering any services, even e-mail or web-hosting, use partners for that.

freitasm: I would not call it censorship, but rights restrictin. Although being a private institution Vodafone is allowed to decide what constitutes the "rights" and the company is simply exercising this power.

Disenchanted: The conversation has predominantly centered on Skype, but the wording is as follows:
"The use of Vodafone Mobile Connect for Voice over IP (VoIP) is excluded."
Which of course encompasses so many services including Skype, MSN, ICQ, Netmeeting etc etc (the list is as long as my arm).
Surely they are not actively blocking all of these services?
V.M.D.C.? (or Vodafone Mobile Dis-Connect)
sbiddle: Why is Vodafone Video Calling not classed as VoIP anyway? It uses the SIP protocol so you could argue that the only difference between a SIP VoIP audio call and a SIP Network based Video Calling call is the extra video? I am assuming Vodafone will also not be introducing any software on their network to allow video conferencing between laptops/PDA'a and 3G phones using video calling. :-)AFAIK video calls on UMTS do not use IP for transport, only for initiation and control.
