However, it's not up to the RIAANZ. They are representatives of *some* music recording artists, and whether they decide to prosecute or not should not stand in the way of making laws that are for teh benefit and protections of NZers, and all musicians (and other copyright holders, and consumers)
We shouldn't be shaping laws around the wishes of that one group that calls themselves RIAANZ.

At least we now have options for legally downloading music in NZ, it wasn't long ago you had idiots like Michael Glading (former head of Sony NZ) who proudly boasted about carrying around his iPod full of music when the only way he could of got that music there was format shift.. hmm..

Or he owned the copyright to the music, or had the permission of the copyright holder.
I'm not sure how many years ago you are talking, but there were mp3s available for purchase by NZer's online before apple released the ipod.
And then there's all those tracks that bands release for free as mp3.
to get back on topic, i have to say that i am a Telecom fan, yet johnr showed me video calling on Saturday afternoon before the party, and I was impressed. It was really really good. No real noticeable lag, picture was good (about the same as a 7400 video message on high quality, if not slightly better), sound seemed okay for a noisy bar and my bad hearing.
perhaps someone wants to start a new thread about drm etc on mobiles?

But thanks for the honest, and what I would say more reliable reports than the herald.

DRM on these tracks in the music store is at the request of the music industry. Vodafone are working in partnership with the labels, not facilitating or promoting illegal forwarding of music

I have had a couple of issues, but in general, no probs

Absolutely 3G services suck more juice than 2G services do. Thats just logical if your screen is constanting displaying video or playing music. As a comparison, you only get 8-15 hours out of an i-pod, aka, less than a day. As a very high mobile user, I dont find it any worse than any of my old 2G phones.

And a CD single is about twice that price!! LEGALLY acquired music is NOT free. The artists are allowed to make money off their songs, thats how the whole music industry economic model is designed to work!!
The V800i, which he absolutely slated (although many of his gripes were not even handset related!), was voted top 3G phone by the Wireless World Forum at 3GSM in Cannes this year.
I wonder what he thinks of TCNZ's T3G services....oh no...hang on....Push 2 Talk and Video Messaging arent even true 3G services?!?! Yawn!!
the guy who wrote that article is well known for the fact that he is hired to slam telcos, he does the same to telecom services. One of those cynical ones with too much time on their hands, lol. I doubt he writes a good review about anything.
