So you may have seen on Twitter, our 1GB product didn't pass through testing very well (balance reporting didn't work).

So many apologies, but all customers get to keep 3GB until we can fix the issues and look to launch sometime in the new year (probably Feb).

I wish Vodafone would put this sort of info on their website or text me about this sort of stuff. Some of us don't use twitter and it seems unprofessional to have to get this information from a 3rd party website from a reasonably new poster.

Can anyone else confirm this before I use too much data?

Edit: Just found this info buried in the forums on the Vodafone site so I guess it is true, still... a text would have been nice.

A txt would have been great : )

I would say the extension is true as it is on Vodafone's official Twitter page.

Vodafone will get my custom for at least another two months now : )

Ham,

Our non-twitter and non-geekzone customers will naturally receive a text prior to the 10 December date, and we are also in the process of updating the web pages asap.

This was simply a courtesy message on this forum so that geekzoners get to hear as quickly as possible. I felt it was highly relevant to this thread. I trusted that the geekzone community would understand that a twitter/forum post can happen much more quickly than an update to a commercial web site, or a text to many tens of thousands of iPhone users.

Are you suggesting we stop using geekzone to augment our communications? It would certainly save me some time!

As a courtesy it's great, and I appreciated it! However in the past it has been the only way that I have come across that it was being extended. (as I said before, I don't use twitter)

I mustn't have made the mailing list last time, I'm not holding my breath this time

Anyway, I see you've updated your profile now and thanks for the heads up. And thanks Vodafone for the data!

Hmmm, I'll investigate what could have happened to your text.

I was told we had texted all customers on iPhone & Smart plans last time, and it's planned for this time also. Sometime our contact rules get in the way (can't text more than x times per quarter), so maybe it was that.

+1 for never getting a txt regarding 3GB extensions or extension end date. Luckily I'm a geekzoner!

No one is suggesting that.

A point that is possibly being made, is that many people will not know that you work for Vodafone, hence just look at your limited post count and think your a newbie passing on information in an unofficial capacity...

May I suggest you ask Freitasm for an official Vodafone badge for your Geekzone profile, so people can recognize immediately you work for Vodafone and speak in an official capacity and/or a level of legitimacy.

I agree it's slightly on the pricey side but they have to protect other core parts of heir business and network investments.

If the price were say $29.95, it would start to eat into the wireline market (1GB costs approx $40 plus the cost of a landline ($80 total) leaving people $50 to spend on mobile calls and probably enough for many to dump the landline altogether.

Also you have network loading to take into account, if all customers had huge data plans on the cheap, the network performance would degrade for each use.

Hamish, can you confirm if the MMS is VF-VF or to all NZ networks?

What are you talking about? Vodafone have very little "wireline" network to protect. Telecom are the ones that would be worried about that.
