Apparently you can't merge them later because one is/was a Pre-paid.

Still haven't resolved it. Will probably set up two accounts and then see what can be done in the future. Doubt I can move to another provider, and then back as it's on a 24month contract so would get a early termination charge.

I appreciate there is more to this from a technical point of view, but from my point of a view, it is a simple matter of accounting and it's poor customer service. It's just that plain and simple!

michaelmurfy: This can't be done in store, but if I remember correctly you can set up a new account (Using the same name etc) and get them "Merged"

The number transfer authorisation isn't done in store, its part of vodafone's self help making life simple policy. The number transfer itself is done in store. Don't setup two accounts and try and have them merged, this will cause more trouble.

Micheal you might want to brush up on the varisty training particualry module 3 :)

OK, so if I don't setup two accounts, and can't put them on one post paid account, whats the solution?

EDIT: Sorry missed you previous message answering this :)  Also jamesvini has been helping with this, so hopefully a resolution is on the way.

You can put them onto one account

Its Vodafone Number Flexibilty, all vodafone stores should be able to do this for you.

the stores for some reason (probably privacy concerns) aren't allowed to setup the number transfer authorisation for you, they should at least be able to call 777 for you to save you a $1 and to explain to the csr what needs to be done then hand the phone to you to answer the csr's questions i.e. what is your phone number and pin number and who do you want to release the number to. This is the part the csr's get confused with as your releasing it to yourself. this has to be done because the prepay is currently setup on its own customer account. The store can then do a normal number transfer from the prepay onto your existing postpay account as a number transfer authorisation will be loaded.

This can be done and i have done it before, I.e. getting nieces prepays moved onto accounts onto their mothers existing postpaid account.

lol, it's been a while since i have logged into the Varsity since I have lost my login details. And we don't have them too often here, I have only ever had one which was 2 accounts which they asked to be merged into 1 account.

"Also jamesvini has been helping with this, so hopefully a resolution is on the way."

Well after visiting the store again to see how the progress was going after James sorted some thing out, I was told what I want to do CAN NOT be done no matter how many times I might try.

The other issue I have come across is that if I put it on an account, I can NEVER change it later, i.e. I can never transfer the phone to a family member if I wanted to. Of course this could be resolved by porting it to another provider, but not within VF.

So the whole pre-paid to post paid idea is a bit of a lemon. Thanks Vodafone for ensuring customers are aware of all the conditions and potential issues of pre-paid when you happily take their money .

Since VF 3G coverage is pretty poor anyway, and this entire experience has left me with ill feelings for Vodafone, I am contemplating moving both my iPhones to the XT network.

Sounds very technical complicated in VF billing system.
Telecom can do your one in one bill - no problemo...
and plus XT network is purely 3G and 97% coverage.......
Good Luck!!!

Honestly, is thats the best VF and their dealers can come up with?

I mean by the sounds of it VF can't even do a little house keeping for their customers...

Meh, i'm not worried, it's late at night and i'm just catching up on my emails.
Can't be really assed thinking up something to spark a flame war. Since that's all that's gonna happen :P
The question has already been answered.. So why keep the thread open for this kinda crap?

Just wanted to take a moment to thank those who responded with possible solutions, especially jamesvini for his help. Even though he was not involved in the sale, and had nothing to gain from helping, he spent time talking to my store and trying to resolve the issue. Too bad the store were unable to complete it as it is in the too hard basket.

I hope that Vodafone management read this and realise the value of employees like James and that outsourcing customer services to foreign countries who don't speak good English, and can only follow scripts are driving customers away. Also that their stores are the face of Vodafone, and only knowledgeable and helpful staff should be employed.

So despite no resolution in the end, thanks James for going out of your way, hope Vodafone appreciate you.

It gets better.

Michael brings up the extended 900mhz wcdma network, however fails to bring up the fact that the iphone 3G/3GS (the iphone was explicitly discussed in a previous post) cannot use it.

So when it comes to 3G coverage for the iphone - XT wins.
