michaelmurfy: This can't be done in store, but if I remember correctly you can set up a new account (Using the same name etc) and get them "Merged"
Predated:
The number transfer authorisation isn't done in store, its part of vodafone's self help making life simple policy. The number transfer itself is done in store. Don't setup two accounts and try and have them merged, this will cause more trouble.

Briggsy: "Also jamesvini has been helping with this, so hopefully a resolution is on the way."
Well after visiting the store again to see how the progress was going after James sorted some thing out, I was told what I want to do CAN NOT be done no matter how many times I might try.
The other issue I have come across is that if I put it on an account, I can NEVER change it later, i.e. I can never transfer the phone to a family member if I wanted to. Of course this could be resolved by porting it to another provider, but not within VF.
So the whole pre-paid to post paid idea is a bit of a lemon. Thanks Vodafone for ensuring customers are aware of all the conditions and potential issues of pre-paid when you happily take their money .
Since VF 3G coverage is pretty poor anyway, and this entire experience has left me with ill feelings for Vodafone, I am contemplating moving both my iPhones to the XT network.

Sounds very technical complicated in VF billing system.
Telecom can do your one in one bill - no problemo...
and plus XT network is purely 3G and 97% coverage.......
Good Luck!!!

Honestly, is thats the best VF and their dealers can come up with?
I mean by the sounds of it VF can't even do a little house keeping for their customers...

It gets better.
Michael brings up the extended 900mhz wcdma network, however fails to bring up the fact that the iphone 3G/3GS (the iphone was explicitly discussed in a previous post) cannot use it.
So when it comes to 3G coverage for the iphone - XT wins.
