It's looking extremely likely that I'll be switching to VF (probably in the next week or so) with the Sky package.

Would anyone know whether a wireless router can be hooked up to the free modem they're offering (the ADSL2+ modem)? I've got a Netgear one and would like to use it if I can, as I'm not too keen to pay the extra cash to get VF's wireless modem. I emailed them about it (and some other stuff), but they replied to all of the questions I asked, apart from the modem one lol...and I'm not terribly technically minded!

Yep the wireless router will work fine with the VF supplied modem. I have setup a belkin wireless router with VF modem at someone's premises and it's working solid.

Do whatever you want to do man.

I just need to find out whether I can get broadband where I am. We don't have a current phone line but I assume it should be fine since I am in the red zone?

Another update, just to warn any Orcon customers considering switching. I found out tonight after finally getting through to Orcon customer services that I had to give them 30 days notice of my disconnection. Since I contacted them on the day I switched to Vodafone, this means I'll have to pay over $80 for the service up until the 25th February even though I have no way of getting any value from the money.

They said they did this instead of fixed contracts, give me a freakin contract any day, at least then it's crystal clear what I'm paying for.

It's a sad way to leave Orcon when I was pretty happy with them for a long time, but be warned, give them plenty of notice, and then hope Vodafone connect you when they say they will...

I took up this offer fairly recently however was already on Vodafone / Ihug for my BB so i wouldnt know how long it would take to switch over. The offer itself is a pretty good deal and as already mentioned, everything comes through in a single bill which is great. You still have to call up sky to activate or de-activate sports / movie channels but other than that, you have to call the Vodafone call centre for anything relating to your account.

The sky technician did a great job in installing the decoder and the extra cabling.

Just a note to all that you can request the technician to install any additional cables within your house walls as oppose to exposing the cables outside the walls of your house. There is an additional $50 charge to do so but i felt it was worth it as i didnt want those ugly white cables running outside of my house.

This is why you read your contract even if its a no term contract

Yeah just rang orcon, going to get stung for a month, lucky I sent an e-mail last month about returning my modem as they counted that as my noticed.

Yes johnr is right, always read your contract!!!
If johnr got a dollar everything he has said that on geekzone he would be a rich man!!

Vodafone activated my line this morning.

The modem is currently being held somewhere by useless Courier Post - according to the info online with the tracking number, Vodafone put the "wrong delivery address" on the parcel, which I know is wrong since they have all my details up to date. Vodafone have been awesome though, one of their CSRs is due to ring me soon to let me know where it is and when I can go pick it up myself at the Courier Post depot, since the courier company is hopeless (not the first time I have issues with them). I must say I'm really impressed with Vodafone though, excellent service

Just waiting on Sky to call and get a date for MySky HDI to be installed now.

well i changed to Vodafone and received my modem pack yesterday(delivered overnight)
My downloading speeds are alot better than when i was with telecom.Customer service has being great and they kept me upto date through the whole process.Get mysky installed tomorrow

Yep their customer service has been faultless so far (minus a little hiccup with signing me up to a different plans from the one I requested, but this should be fixed soon). Picked up modem from useless Courier Post depot after it was sent back to them. Speeds are excellent as well

Now if only Sky could hurry up lol

I'm now completely set up.

The Sky tech came this morning for My Sky HDI, so it's all systems go. Love MySky and broadband with VF, it's an excellent product.

The only minor issue is that the CSR I signed up with put me on the wrong broadband plan so I need to monitor my internet use until the end of the month now, until they roll me over to the 20GB lol

It's pretty good so far
