I tried and noticed the downloads where all directed to ireland and all worked via various TCL connections... Speed varied from 1-2Mbps
Seems that Amazon has 3 data centres for the s3 service and clients choose where they want there data hosted. http://aws.amazon.com/s3/#pric...
The company storing the data could ask to host there data in the US which whould halve the distance and greatly improve the download speeds in NZ. If there client base is europe why would they?
Update: We have had a look at the routing to the Amazon servers for this download and the international transit links that are used. However, we have not been able to find any issues that could have caused poor download performance. (International transit links are not congested.)
Also, as this is HTTPS... traffic, the issues would not be related to our transparent caches. Our caches only intercept port 80 HTTP traffic.
I have asked Mauricio for some additional information to see if we can figure out what is going on here...
