Also one of my customers (and me) having similar issues of the Laingholm cell-site. They have good coverage, but text messages significantly delayed, garbled phone calls, connection error when attempting a phone call etc.

johnr kindly looked into this for me. Seems the iPhone, despite being ON and IN coverage area, appears to the network to be offline. John believes it is the device so I've put my SIM into another phone, and so far I haven't had any issues.

Coffeebaron are your phones iPhones? Ironically iPhones don't seem to like Vodafone!!

The iPhone radio software is absolutrely terrible. It's caused a lot of grief to operators everywhere around the world.

They might have employed some smart people for the UI but they didn't for the radio side, their shambles with introducing fast dormancy and then pulling it is proof of that.

No these are Nokia. I do wonder if it's an issue with this being duel 900/2100 site. It should be picking up the 2100 side at this spot, but is often getting the 900 side. Also I've had issues with phone calls when there is packet data happening at the same time.

I've had the same issue in Chch in St Martins. Whenever I'm working there I often get no ring, just a text 2 minutes later telling me I have a message. Only ever happens in St Martins intermittently. Nokia e63, full 3g coverage.

So vodafone don't like iPhone, Palm and Nokia :-D

no, not sad, your requirements evolve, if the network and plans do not, then you have to look elsewhere. XT has the network, 2 degrees have the pricing plan... VF have not really changed on either recently unless you count rolling out 900MHz to the whopwhops.

SMSCs out and new SMSRs put in place
When 3G went live in main centers late 2005 3 RNCs now Vodafone NZ have 6 live RNCs across NZ and another RNC in test
All 2nd generation 2G BTSs have been upgraded to 3rd generation 2G BTSs over the last 24 months or so.
Core network network capacity has increased 4 fold in the last 18 months
Transmission from RNCs out to the Node Bs on average has increased 5 fold some more
Rolled out the 3G 900mhz network
Ericsson MMSC replaced with high capacity 7/24 solution MMSC with transcoder
Many 1800 2G sites rolled out for capacity in CBDs
Brand new Prepay charging platform about 30 months ago with a major upgrade coming about the middle of this year

and many other upgrades can't think of right now

I haven't used VF for about 3 month now. Have the following problems being upgraded?

No 3g when walking into almost any store in newmarket.
Calls dropping totally or going silent for many seconds on the northbound downhill of the harbor bridge towards onewa
systems being down when calling the prepay missinformation service to find out about where balance has been going
random stalling of 3g sessions untill going to the homescreen and ending it and then letting it restart.

I know you said there is finally a site going in to get some coverage in glenfield mall.

Funny that there was good signal at one end of the mall when the vodafone shop was there, so clearly the problem was known and solved for the VF shop, then when it moved it was decided to unsolve it.

2g upgrades - way too late for that IMO, about as logical as an ISP rolling out new dialup equipment.

Not really. GSM isn't going to die any time soon. For VF to roll out 900MHz nationwide it means getting rid of some 900 GSM traffic. The easiest way to do this is roll out more 1800 sites so 900 spectrum can be freed up.

I can't believe how many of you guys whine on here yet don't do the obvious which is log a fault with Vodafone. Don't rely on john to bypass talking to a CSR.

ahmad, reading your very first post it's pretty obvious your dropping of the network, most likely your device is not responding to paging.

You blame Vodafone when in fact you should be voicing your issues on the apple website in an attempt that their 4th/5th gen iphone might be an "ok" device... iphones are a very good example of glossing up what is in essence a very poor phone, the fact apple doesn't do things by the book is half the problem. If you want a decent phone then buy one but do your research first, having a pretty mp3 player that passes as a phone is what you have purchased. Apple have very little experience, Nokia on the other hand has years.

I know you said there is finally a site going in to get some coverage in glenfield mall.

AHB is getting some upgrades right now. Have you Noticed the Vodafone COW beside the Telecom site North side of the Bridge?

I advised we have a new 3G cell on Chartwell Road that should improve coverage around the mall (site is not live yet)
