johnr: The issue was not a fault on the Vodafone NZ network as such but a transmission / capacity fiber provider for Vodafone NZ

NonprayingMantis: after the first large XT outage, which IIRC was a similar scale to this Voda one (correct me if I'm wrong, I remember the first outage being only a few hours, like this one), ?Telecom announced compensation of something like $5m.
Will Voda announce similar compensation for it's affected customers?

Telecom's outage was approx 500 sites and lasted over 24 hours affecting 240,000 people and was their 3rd complete outage from Taupo south in the last two months.

Vodafone's outage was 16(?) sites lasting what 16 hours? and probably affected a few thousand people and was their first public outage since last year when Newmarket 3G went down. (I'll probably be smacked by JohnR because it was not 'newmarket' but I don't know the exact zone that RNC covers. :)
By no means was the Vodafone outage of the scale and shear glory of the XT crashes. In fact the guy from TUANZ cannot find a similar outage anywhere in the world which such a large section of a mobile network went down covering such a large region for such a long time and for so long.
XT stands apart in this regards.

6 Hours not 16 and Vodafone customers were handed to the GSM network during that RNC outage so customer impact was small
