I've always been able to call my friends in Malaysia/Singapore/Hong Kong for cheaper than I can call someone in Christchurch (be it mobile or landline).

It's just the way it goes. At the end of the day, which I begrudge 89c/min mobile rates on prepaid, Telecos are in it for the money and if they weren't making money we wouldn't have their network to use.

PaulBrislen: Sometimes we launch products, and they're on Prepay.

Sometimes we launch products, and they're On Account.

Sometimes we launch products and they're for both but for a limited time.

Sometimes we launch products and they're for both for ever.

Sometimes we launch products that are cheaper than other products.

Can't always guarantee you'll be happy but apparently I can guarantee that someone will complain that they're on a: a different plan, b: should get it first, c: don't want it, d: want it now, e: can't understand why anyone would want it or f: all of the above.

Cheers

Paul

This is why I left vodafone years ago, I was on a plan but it seemed that I should have been on prepay because they received much better deals!  Telecom on the other hand weren't so bad, now 2degrees is much more reasonable (they do not even have on a/c yet )

I get better value on XT prepaid than I would on a plan.

"2 degrees don't even offer on account at the moment" - this doesn't add anything to the discussion.

What Paul said is true and furthermore it is life.

2degrees does add value, for me they provide much better value without even worrying about plan/prepay.
for $50 I get 113min and 500 texts which is not locked into any term. This is a lot more attractive...

You claim in your post above that Vodafone offering different groups of their customers vary deals was the "reason you left Vodafone".

Would have been more honest might have been to say that you switched to 2 Degrees because their pricing was more competive for YOU.

Each person is always going to have different needs and that is one of the beauties of having choice. Nice to hear you are on a plan that suits you. Some of us are better on XT and others are better off on Vodafone.

Maybe, but it pisses people off.

It's the fact that groups that show no commitment get favoured over those who are locked into contract and/or show loyalty by being on account.

If a company wants to annoy their customers, then they should do what Vodafone NZ does with their targeted promos.

Finding out that another provider has cheaper prices is one thing, finding out that the provider you are currently with has cheaper prices but only to other people that don't spend as much, is completely different.

I can't get my head around the fact that my friend on prepay is paying 10c per minute to call overseas but i'm forced to pay $1.39 per minute. It is absolutely crazy and annoys the hell out of me.

Second reply to the thread.

And you aren't being "forced" to pay $1.39 per minute.

Point is they intend to offer a version of this deal at some stage.

And I know johnr is powerful but I didn't realise that he was able to make people dial numbers on their mobile.

what, it is somehow illegal for you to buy a vodafone prepay sim and use that when you want to make international calls?

Or maybe when you go to buy a voda sim do they refuse to sell it to you because you already have an account with them?

help me out here, I'm trying to understand who is forcing you to pay $1.39 for an international call.

Get real, be realistic.

No customer should have to swap SIM cards when making calls to different destinations on the same network.

One could also say that noone should ahve to change sims to get 4000 texts, yet many people have to, or to get more than vodafone will supply a single sim in offpeak mins on the addons.

The fact is that many people do change sims to get the deals they want. Why else would the craptastic dual sim phones sell like they do?

Don't ask questions you know the answer to, it's really quite stupid.

Obviously no one is forcing me to pay $1.39 a minute.

The point is, and you know this but you obviously feel the need to waste time and turn this into an issue, i don't want to have to swap out SIM cards to save $1.29 per minute on calling.

Maybe to use two different networks at the same time? EG 2degrees and Vodafone on the same phone.
