I actually enjoy it. My phone checks for emails every 15minutes and I browse the net a lot when I'm bored at school :P. I've yet to ever use over 50MB of data a month. Well, once I used 70MB but that was to download drivers because it would time out on the download at home because we have telecom's BigTime. Nice bonus when I moved back to Vodafone

On pure phone based browsing 100MB is often enough. If I use my phone to connect my laptop to the net whilst on the road its hopeless.

I was out of Auckland for 4 days and managed to use 90MB on my phone and 95 MB on a prepay, and that was with being careful what I was doing.

Generally known online as OpenMedia, now working for Red Hat APAC as a Technology Evangelist and Portfolio Architect. Still playing with MythTV and digital media on the side.

Wow I can't believe the number of "geeks" in this thread saying that 100Mb is a lot.

We should all be on Telecom's introduction to broadband legacy plan - 256/128 with 200Mb data on our home lines.

I think the idea is to indroduce people to using data on their phones, then when the offer runs out they buy data and VF make some money. Not rocket science

Of course Ham, but the point is that quite a number of "geeks" on this thread have already expressed the opinion that 100Mb is "quite a lot" - not only for casual users but for themselves as well. Which I find unusual.

I was aiming my response at the opening post but maybe "Geeks" aren't the target demographic.. For the average prepay user I'm certain 100Mb is probably heaps for just emails etc.. On my iPhone i never use near my 250Mb even though I have 3Gb available.

Yeh but mobile data is really really small. The images are scaled down on mobile sites and are almost nothing. Most of the emails I get are about 5KB or less. Although I don't download the big ones. I also read NZ herald and stuff alot when I'm on the train and stuff. Still have ALOT of data left over at the end of the month. Shame only one month left of it D:. all good things come to an end though. Anyways why are we complaining? It's free anyways :P

Phones that connect to the web via Vodafone Live or WAP go through a gateway that strips down the data on Vodafone. Smartphones like iPhone and HTC Magic connect directly to the internet and so get full size of web pages and images etc. So yes they will use a lot more data even for the same content - probably 3 - 5 x.

i'm not saying that 100Mb is "quite a lot".... just that it is sufficient for the purpose that we use it for @ the office, which is mainly email/calendar on phone. Given that it used to cost a minimum of $40 per month to get the base plan of 200MB, 100MB free for three months is coming a long way :P Of course, now you can buy 100MB of data for $10 a month and thats a lot better.

Mind you, Telecom put up its line rental yesterday and TUANZ said that was fine, so maybe we should try doing that?!

the downward pressure on mobile data pricing has only really happened in the last 12 months - for the last 5 years we've all been getting shafted!

I remember a few years ago talking to someone about your 1GB for $60 plan and VF NZ proposed a 3GB plan but the pom's in the UK thought this was too much...
