But then why can 025 receve an SMS in like 2 seconds and 027 can take up to 6 (engineering menus) and 025 can leave a message on sever if phone is full, 027 takes it regardless meaning if inbox full, message is deleted! silly.
When you make a phone call with a 3G fone, you dont even use the 3g network!! u still use the 2.5g network!! you onyl use the 3g network when your making a video call or using the vodafone live 3g services!! making standard calls DOESNT use the 3g network!!!!!!!!!

I received some calls on a Telecom landline and Callplus iTalk VoIP connection from a 3G handset (Nokia 6680) in the UK, and was amazed how good the voice quality was. Close to a good Skype call, I'd say.
027 calls aren't anywhere near as good, unfortunately.
027 calls depend on conditions, Sadly the standard system uses a vocoder which has a little to aggressive noise cancelling for my liking. I have heard calls on 027 that sound absolutely fantastic, then person hands the phone to another voice it really can't handle.
This can be changed on some handsets to something called QCELP (curitel, Pantech, hyundai, Samsung) but you'll have to hunt for details. Hint --- geekzone posts --- Hint
3g uses AMR, the same as used for most "realtones" on Vodafone Live the alt 027 one is QCELP as used for Telecoms "realtones"
My understanding (and I'm sure Jama will correct me if I'm wrong) is that while Telecom's 027 network supports the 13kbit/s QCELP for overseas customers roaming here, the network defaults to the 8kbit/s EVCR. So it doesn't matter if you change it on your phone.
Vodafone's AMR seems to sound a lot better, and it should improve with the 64kbps (?) Wideband AMR for HSDPA.
It's always set to the default 8k EVRC vocoder when a handset is shipped.. some handsets can be changed to 13k QCELP.
I'd say this will be blocked altogether from changing it in newer handsets. Qcelp works much better in my carkit.. Sounds fantastic. lot more natural and less processed though it's got a tendency to collect background noise but overall better.
