Hi Corksta,

Hopefully you might be able to help me too (sorry to be a pain)

I am wanting to buy a Time Capsule to plug into my existing Modem router which is a thomson 585V8

I don't want to use the Thomson as a router, just a modem. And get the Time Capsule to act as the Router Do you know if that will work?

Hi dakie, any modem/router will work in the same setup as jaskarn's as long as it supports half-bridge mode (also known as IP extension). I can't find any reference to the v8 supporting bridge mode though, so if it doesn't then it won't work. Is that one of the Telecom supplied ones?

The two could still connect together, but you'd either have a double NAT, or you'd have to turn off NAT and DHCP on the TC and the Thomson would handle everything, but of course this isn't what you want and when you're spending that kind of money on a TC you want it working how it's supposed to!

To be honest I'd highly recommend doing the same thing and getting a Dynalink from somewhere, so much easier just having a simple modem passing everything over to the TC to handle.

Hi dude, thanks for the help. When you get chance can you email me the intructions as well?

I will get one of these Dynalink RTA1320E modems as well, hopefully it is a bit more stable than the thomson router

Move to New Zealand's best fibre broadband service (affiliate link). Free setup code: R587125ERQ6VE. Note that to use Quic Broadband you must be comfortable with configuring your own router.
