SteveON: If you wanted to save money I wouldn't go with Vodafone in the first place :)

That is quite a general statement.  Some examples would be nice.

I, myself, disagree with Vodafone not being cost effective.  We've been a Vodafone customer for some time now, and the Vodafone family product works a treat for us.  Being able to call/txt my parter and my business partner (plus he can call/txt his partner) for no cost is a massive saving to us.  It also means I don't end up having to sleep on the couch at night as I'm always contactable by she who must be obeyed Wink

My calling rates aren't unreasonable (our work VoIP with WxC is much cheaper but I digress) and the handful of times I've had to call 777 have been painless.  We could swap to Telecom/2degrees, but we're more than happy with Vodafone - why change what ain't broke?

I did find my Vodem data slow, so I use a Telecom T-Stick for this.  As a consumer, you really need to do your own research - one or more providers/plans will best suit you, and it's up to you as a clued up geek to figure out which is best

/my 2 cents.

Yeah I know it was a very generic post, I did think shortly after about bestmates and the family plans. However with their vast array of plans it sometimes seems like consumers will only get the best deal if they are constantly looking at the vf website. In this case Motormouth came out about 6 years ago (I remember printing the lanyards for DSE back then) and I'm very surprised that they still have people on this prepay plan.

VF does still have better 3g coverage than 2 degrees. Once they improve that, I am sure many more people will switch based on price.

3G coverage on2degrees is virtually the same as Vodafone. If you are not on a 3G zone with 2degrees you are roaming on Vodafone 3G.

I haven't tried 2 degrees in a while for my own 3G phone. Last time I popped their card into my phone, it wasn't connecting to a 3G network. Not sure if that was my nokia 6120 classic phone not being compatible with their 3g network, but will have to give it another  try.

The motormouth plan was actually better value than the supa prepay plan, as it was 49c, vs 89c per minute, from VF to VF phones. However this new prepay plan is better value than motor mouth, for those people who are still on it, and vodafone makes $5 for each person who switches to it.

Wait question, if Vodafone no longer allows customers to go on old "plans" such as Motormouth, why still maintain it? Surely those on it would benefit from what's there now? Or be moved to something equivalent?

Often companies have terms which mean the customer has to voluntarily switch to a different plan.

They maintain it because customers don't like being forced on to new plans.  Also, it's easier and cheaper if customers migrate themselves to a plan of their choice over time.

You'll generally only find Telcos forcing customers on to a new plan where it is either clearly cheaper and better than what they currently have OR the Telco is moving to a new system and don't want to go setting up hundreds of old plans.

The question is, what does Motormouth have that other current prepay plans don't? Why spend the money and time maintaining an out of date plan?  That's what I really don't get.

With say Telecom broadband, whenever they upgrade / improve their plans, they send out a letter and a month later everyone's on the new plan with added benefits.  This is best practice in my opinion, but hey, just my opinion.

We do indeed have a "right planning" process and I see some of you have been contacted by the team after we've assessed your plan and your spend. We do this constantly throughout the year.

As for shutting down older plans, we find some people simply don't want to move, so we don't force anyone. Personally I'd shut down all the old plans to make it easier for me to keep track of the plans, but that's not a company wide view. ;-)

It's definitely worth keeping an eye on your plans to make sure you're getting the best deal.

My wife and I went for the cheapest plan - the Easy 20 at $17 a month. Because of our extra calling, we were paying about $35 each a month instead.

I upgraded us both last week to the Starter 600 and now we pay $30 each a month but because we're on a qualifying plan, we can add each other as best mates as well (best mates doesn't apply to Easy plans). Now we can call, txt, pxt and video call each other as much as we want for free. Way better than the old plan we were on.

(just quietly, I'm not sure my wife being able to call me for free for as long as she likes is a good thing) ;)

Interestingly the VF call centre told me I couldn't be on a Starter plan as it was only for new accounts. I asked Vodafonenz on Twitter and they said that was false and I was welcome to change to any plan. Did I say I was a fan of Twitter? :)

My plan is due to expire soon.  I have a fixed spend so just try and get whatever is best for that amount.  This year I am looking at getting a win phone 7, will be looking at options from all telcos. Mainly I am looking for good minutes and at least 250mb of data and 'no break fees'. Will likely buy the phone this time rather than use subsidy.

I can't do best mates because everyone I know is using a different telco, so free minutes are important to me.  Being able to make more than one phone call per month without going over my monthly spend would be quite good.

I think I have 3GB of data at the moment (which I think is quite good), but have not been officially told I can use it, so havn't in case I get stung for excess charges or something.
