My mother just logged into her Vodafone account a few minutes ago and she looked at what plan she was on and it was the 'motormouth' plan. According to the vodafone website they no longer sell these plans:

http://www.vodafone.co.nz/plans/prepay/classic-prepay-plans.jsp

My mother has been paying $1.43 per minute all these years when she could have been paying $0.49cents per minute. And she has been paying $0.20cents per text when she could have been paying $0.12cents per text.

Does anyone know why Vodafone did not automatically migrate my mother from the 'motormouth' plan to the Simply PrePay plan? The entire Simply Prepay plan is cheaper and offers all the same features and more.

Is it in the terms and conditions that vodafone cannot change a person to a cheaper plan with all the benefits of the old plan and more?

Man there is probably tens of thousands of people who don't even know they could be getting cheaper calls and texts. Some may switch to other carriers because of this. lol vodafone should do something.

Many year ago, when Vodafone did not have term contracts (well, between having terms and having terms, to be more precise), they used to review customers' accounts every few months and send out letters with recommendations, such as "if you move to this other plan you will save ... based on your current usage".

They stopped many years ago, but I was told they would start sending those letters again. It obviously never happened.

Vodafone have never migrated people automatically between any plans.

I certainly wouldn't make sence with Motormouth because those who had to call on net or landlines would have faced a price increase along with a change to per minute rounding rather than per second. I'm sure there would have been a lot of grumpy customers had they done that!

Since when has txting only been 12 c. I still have one VF prepay phone, and it's on motormouth. I believe I pay 49cent per min to a VF and $1.50 to a non VF phone, and 20cents for txting. Just looked at their website and the cheap plan looks to be called prepay simply. Not good that you have to pay $5 to switch to it, if you are an existing cusomter, becuase I could switch it to 2 degreees at no charge, and benefit from cheaper txts and calls. The only disadvantage is 3g coverage on this phone.

About a year and a half ago I received a letter in the post explaining that I was on the right plan for my level of usage.

Probably a case of damned if you do and damned if you don't.

If they change your terms and conditions without your knowledge.... who do you complain to if they get it wrong??? Do you thank them if they get it right???

Or do you simply take responsibility for the contracts you commit to and remember to review them when they expire......

It's up to you to source the best deal for your needs.  This is in no way Vodafone's fault.

Simply prepay is a little different to 'regular' prepay, which VF calls 'Supa prepay'.

Simply prepay charges you $1 if you topup via voucher, and you cannot have txt plans or bestmate. For this disadvantage they give you better rates - the 12c txts and 49c calls.

Supa prepay/regular prepay is the standard 20c txt and 89c calls. But you can have plans, bestmates etc

While it might have been nice for VF to migrate her to Supa Prepay automatically, if they had moved her to simply prepay and she didnt realise it cost her $1 to topup at the dairy then it would have pissed people off

The cost per minute from VF to VF is actually less on motormouth than on the Supa prepay plan (49c vs 89c), so she may not have been happy if they automatically switched it.

Also on simply prepay you can't have ANY addons (data/txt/etc)
So it's no good for any kind of smartphone. Switch to 2d's if you're in their 3g areas instead.

If you wanted to save money I wouldn't go with Vodafone in the first place :)

'Motormouth' does not have text plans or bestmate either. So if Vodafone removed the $1 topup via voucher then Simply Prepay would be a cheaper plan than 'motormouth' and have more features, so then vodafone changing people from the classic prepay plans would not piss people off.

VF does still have better 3g coverage than 2 degrees. Once they improve that, I am sure many more people will switch based on price.

3G coverage on2degrees is virtually the same as Vodafone. If you are not on a 3G zone with 2degrees you are roaming on Vodafone 3G.

I wasn't saying 2degrees. Even XT have some better deals... Orcon, Slingshot for example...
