It is. All up to date and latest versions.

And the exact same thing happens with 3 different devices:

Blink - OS X softphone (i can provide logs for this, with the SIP dialogue neatly formatted)
Telephone - OS X softphone (I can also provide logs)
Siemens Gigaset IP Phone A580

The only consistent thing here is the 08-ness of the numbers (and the 9503000 we tried).

Here's the output from Blink when trying 08210. Note the ACKS being sent, but apparently not received. It does really look like the server at the VFX end is just sending a BYE for no reason.:

No , I think you are missing the info I posted, the trace you see is a packet capture looking at all SIP packets hitting the network, Trust me a bit here when I tell you it is not being sent past your network.

Now you say it happens on all devices , this now points to your local router possibly, do you have another router you could try, for this to happen to 3 different SIP stacks and the same thing occurs it strongly points to your local router....IMHO........In this case also the packet captures that I use are 100% accurate and they all show no ACK getting sent out to us.

I trust you!

I'll try to set up the device / mac as a DMZ on the router.

This is all UDP, right?

I can also do a network packet capture on my end.

Wife is calling me away... will investigate later.

Thanks for help!

I just quickly tried it with the T-Stick plugedd directly into the MAC, rather than through the router.

Same result..

maybe an issue with the Telecom XT network?

Also you could try the setup,

Proxy. as.wxcnz.net
Obp: 58.28.20.150

instead of pan, it may be how you have configured pan and something is going on with the sip alg on the router perhaps as my guess it being blocked or it's got an issue with natting

Why do you think it is an issue with the XT network? What provider is being used in your router (or is it a 3G router, therefore XT is common to your tests)?

XT is the only common denominator.

I had a XT T-stick in a router, and now have removed the router and put it straight in my macbook. I get the same result for 08xxx numbers.

I will post a quick summary in a moment.

Ok, you left this out in your first post, and it could be important information.

What APN are you using? Have you tried using the direct.telecom.co.nz APN? All other APNs have automatic NAT or firewall blocking.

Quick summary:

1. 08 numbers get dropped after 6 seconds. This is consistent with VFX systems not seeing ACKS to their 200OK messages, so after 6 seconds VFX drops the call

2. The symptoms occurs with foreign numbers starting in 8 or 08.  +31 88 46xxx30 does this - even though it's actually a normal business line to a friend's desk.

3. All other numbers are ok.

4. I am using a T-stick on Telecom XT as my internet connection until my Orcon naked DSL like is ready.

5. This is happening with 3 different types of phone (2 apps on a Mac and a Siemens IP phone). Application logs show that I am sending the right ACKS. VFX is not receiving them. So where are the messages being lost?

5. I changed the proxies as per maverick. no change.

6. I removed the 3G router (mifi hotspot from Zoom) - no change.

7. There is no firewall and such like - The T-stick gives me a publicly routable IP address, so no NAT.

This leaves either the XT network, or VFX's config. As SIP is an "application" level protocol, to suspect the XT network is stretching it, as the XT network routers would need to look into my UDP packets and drop them. Unlikely.

Also unlikely is that 3 different devices are misbehaving.

So, the question s, where are my ACK messages going?

Rich

I'd pick that XT is a possible culprit. The default APN blocks uninitiated inbound traffic so this could be at fault. A quick test of the direct.telecom.co.nz as Freitasm has listed above would confirm or discount this as the cause.

Good summary, with lots of information we didn't have.

Now, can you answer my question regarding the APN (which is what Steve is talking about too?)

I am using internet.telecom.co.nz, and it assigns a routable IP address.

This still does not seem like a network issue. If Telecom were dropping ACKS, why would they not drop ACKS from me when I am calling other, non "08xx" numbers?

Okay , this is the info I needed. I know exactly what the issue is... It is XT it is not dial pans or number or even convoys, XT has an issue when SIP Calls are answered straight away, ie auto attendants etc, We have seen this before and it si common to XT, Vodafone are fine.

This is a technical issue with XT I'm afraid and nothing we can do to assist, if ringing is supplid first calls will be fine, but if the call is answered directly with no ringing the issue occurs.
