I thought I would make a list on the things I think vodafone can do to make it's service better as there is alot of competition from telecom because telecom have the fixed line advantage and it shows with their freedom plan.
-Improve their autoroam coverage to other countries. Vodafone offer autoroaming for prepay users to Australia,Fiji,Britain,Spain
They have had these countries for a while and have not added any more autoroam agreements with any other operators from any other countries. Vodafone should have autoroaming agreements with India, South Africa,Thailand,China, Japan,USA. All the countries which are common for new zealanders to travel to. There are alot more too.
Vodafone also need to offer satellite phones for rent when people go to a country with very bad coverage or no coverage at all or with a different frequency not supported by their phones. Other operators around the world offer satellite phones to rent directly from the mobile operator.
Think of the numbers that travel, and how they could get the network billing setup correctly, also not all roaming agreements are overly cheap. Just for some low ARPU prepay users.
-Because vodafone sponsors the vodafone warriors and vodafone select live on tv they should stream these shows live on 3G.I'm surprised vodafone has not offered live television yet apart from live prime news broadcasts and sometimes live skynews. Mobile television is huge over in other countries like britain and is a great incentive for users to buy 3g phones and a great revenue stream for the mobile operator. There is a thing called Cell Multimedia Broadcast which lets operators stream live television to phones and I think it gives 250 users on each base station the ability to have live television on their cellphones as it says here:
Live streaming,,, yawn.... I'd rather have "time shifting" where you can see a show later. The network is good at cutting people off video calls and the only place i'd be looking at tv on a cellphone is while waiting for things. aka commuting where the 3G network goes off and on like a yoyo. Oh, I want live TV... Sh1t, Why don't I just buy a TV,, news flash! oh still I have one of those little handheld jobbies, Probably better on battery too.
-Telecom is going to have a video calling network soon, and that will make it on a level playing field with vodafone. Telecom also have their new freedom plan with $10 month calling from a fixed line to 027 mobile for up to 60minutes each call.Telecom also have $10 text to any network. Vodafone should just have $10 a month for 500 vodafone to vodafone national texts per month for all prepay users. They will not have to worry about termination rates because the texts will be between only vodafone nz mobiles.Same for calling, vodafone should let a prepay user nominate one vodafone mobile phone number which they can call for $10 a month and their calls can last 60minutes. You can only change the nominated vodafone mobile phone number once a month.
Reality bites, Copycat tactics suck, WHY do they want to? especially on PrePay, they want people on "You Choose" 24 month contracts and really are pushing it, not prepay
-Now vodafone needs to offer a HSDPA desktop modem for users with normal computersso they can use it and offer pc cards for laptops. There is already a HSDPA modem out right now for normal computers. You can view it here:
A reasonable monthly plan with a large data cap and around the same prices or cheaper than fixed line offerings would make it very appealing.
Fixed line will be cheaper than mobile always, I think their 1GB plan for $49 is Excellent value.. the $40 off peak plan is very good, works out to be only 13c a min for the first 300 off peak and 20c a min for the remaining, Telecoms anytime is still about 15c plus line rental so is it so bad? no not really! The $40 can be used as tolls spend,, very nice!
Also with mobile data as woosh has shown miserably, only so many users can leech the network at a given time before the individual experience just goes to the dogs.
Oh,, is that to go with all the current slew of advertising PXT and TXT they bombard their customers with? No thanks.-I do not know if this is done anywhere in the world, but would it be great if there was advertising banners in the vodafone live wap service. It would be great for vodafone to provide things like television listings, movie listings, sports news, and weather for free. The television listing pages etc could have an advertising banner at the top of the page. I mean the internet has advertising banners, why not wap?
-Vodafone should improve their coverage by sending a text message to all it's customers asking them where their coverage is weak or where there is no signal at all and get customers to text message back to vodafone the suburb or place where there is no coverage or very weak coverage and also text message back the make and model of their phone. This way vodafone can start fixing their coverage issues where only telecom have coverage is some places and not vodafone. If it's economically viable for them to provice coverage there,, they will provide it there..
-Vodafone optimise their 3G network. If you do not know what optimising a 3G networks means then look at this:Have you heard of the GPRS optimiser? Ummmm, already there..

Jaffa: I expect that we will see cheaper calling by the end of the year with Econet coming in.
Jaffa: I have played on a trial hanset but I didnt know how to get the settings. It was a nokia n70, how do I get the network settings off it ?

Jaffa:They have already build 10 cell sites plus they also have a trial WCDMA network with about 50 users at the moment too.
johnr: Please tell me one mobile network provider that provides %100 coverage to the there country

- The point of my so-called "rubbish statement" was the fact that they do not listen - or respond.
- When they plant a cell site anywhere around 302444E 5882108N I shall cease the "rubbish statements"
- "Comments I make in posts are my own views and findings and do NOT reflect my place of employment in any way!" You could have fooled me!
It is impossible at this point in time for mobile operators to have 100% coverage with New Zealand’s unique terrain.
