Do you have access to a TelstraClear domestic routing table and other providers domestic tables to compare?

Which sites would be faster that peering would resolve? Which sites are missing?

There is a few thousand routes in the NZ domestic table and TelstraClear seems to have enough connectivity directly or indirectly to provide highspeed connectivity.

Peering is good for everyone long term.

If you care about traffic to CityLink being local then choose a provider that does peer with them at APE/WIX.

I care about fast 1's and 0's and stuff that makes that happen. How I get a great upload rate and fast response to all .nz sites... humm.... that seems a bit complex.

There still doesn't seem to be any update from TCL on this- frustratingly they seem to say that they aren't going to offer the service anymore- a real shame...does anyone know why?

The official reason is "lack of interest from customers". Reality is the plan couldn't possibly be cheaper than what they have now so the uptake could be low.

The gear is there, all nodes are updated... It's a wait and see game now.

Sadly that kind of backwards logic from TelstraClear is not surprising to me. Surely if all the gear is present, nodes updated the cost to TelstraClear would be minimal for a launch. They could even soft launch it to the 'geek' community and then run marketing before any main centres have fibre available to them. That way they would get a good test run from people likely to make use of the product and save those massive marketing dollars for the big unwashed masses push.

Presumably they have projected the current demand for it and are weighing that up against the cost of marketing, internal stuff like new plan types for billing etc, more domestic/international bandwidth and helpdesk/cs training... and have thus far decided it's not worth it quite yet.

It's the old "big ship is slow to turn" adage... like how you see that Unleash, Snap etc have started offering retail VDSL2 over Telecom Wholesale WVS when Telecom Retail haven't yet.

I completely agree- I have a 40gb plan and dont need or want any additional usage, but want the speed. TCL have publicly stated that they would work with customers who wanted extra speed, but nobody I have spoken to there seems to know anything about it. Anyone got any idea how to push them as I am positive there is demand, but TCL seem to have sour grapes over UFB in NZ

The 500GB plan will set customers back a maximum of $119.95 per month on a 24-month contract, but when bundled with a fixed-line service, this cost is only $89.95. For an extra $10 per month, Telstra customers on the telco's hybrid fibre-coaxial (HFC) service will be able to get the 500GB download plan with speeds of 100 megabits per second.

lol... clearly you missed todays iiNet announcement...

http://www.iinet.net.au/nbn/ - 25/5 NBN plans with 1TB of data and shaped to 256/256 after that. They even deliver these plans in Tasmania which is one of the most expensive places in Australia to deliver data because of the low population and remoteness of Tasmania.
