speeds with Vodafone are at best shoddy in urban areas. you can almost forget about data connectivity when going out of town.

I'd disagree entirely. Speeds in the CBD's are slower in part because of a greater number of users. I find speeds in many rural areas, especially those that have had the Takahe upgrade to fibre and 14.4 or in some cases 21.1 deliver vastly superior.
