*cough* ;)

It is only a content server; gaming-wise, Gameplanet's servers are local and served out of our network :).

It's still populating currently, which'll take some time... and even when it's fully populated, we can't guarantee your Steam client will pick our server as its source, so we can't guarantee you'll get local traffic (you'll need to look for the various Steam management software packages for that).  That said, it's in, it's serving (I'm guessing probably just TF2 patches currently!), and it's awesome :D.

YAY!!!
Thank you frio.
I will be waiting for it to go live.
Should be interesting to see what games get cached on it.
Yeah someone pointed out GamePlanet's steam servers, which is really good.

I did not think that it was up and running yet.

Frio, what is the IP address (or addresses) for this Steam server?

I've just installed SteamWatch and would like to explicitly whitelist it.

It's up and running - has been since last night :).  IP is 58.28.25.146.  Like I said though, it's still populating, so there's very little content on it now - I'd hold off putting it in your Steamwatch for a week or so.  Probably a bit premature announcing it before everything's on it, but I'm pretty stoked to have it up and running (and have nothing but respect for Valve's amazing professionalism!).

None; that's all controlled by Valve.  It's got enough space in it to be a fairly complete cache though, so hopefully, a good chunk of the Steam catalogue :).

Yay.
Thanks so much Frio.

How long until it is officially announced?

Beyond posting in a few forums, I don't really know what entails an "official announcement" for us :).

If we did do anything, it'd be at least a couple of weeks - I'd want the server to be pretty well populated first.

I was just going to post about it on some forums.

Just tried out SteamWatch. I think it'll work well, though the default 4-second connection-check interval is probably too long.

Alternatively, I found some instructions on TelstraClear about how to block unwanted Steam content servers using your own firewall.

Steps are clear. Just need to use Xnet's address. Examples are for Windows Firewall but you could do this on Mac or even WinXP using a firewall program.

For remote port 27030, block IP addresses that don't match 58.28.25.146. eg, block remote IP ranges from 0.0.0.0-58.28.25.145 and 58.28.25.147-255.255.255.255.

Not able to download anything right now since the server is more or less empty, but hopefully things'll start working in a week ;)

If it's only 1u and assuming you had 4x 3.5" 3TB drives in RAID 5 that's only 8TB, thought Steam was more than that?

Wouldn't it be easier to pay Orcon a few bucks a month to use theirs? Its basically free across the APE for the data transfers?
