Would have preferred a faster plan Telstraclear, no incentive to stay loyal really is there ?

If you go to 120GB you get 25 Mbps. I'd like to see the top plan at 100 Mbps, but it's a good step.

Out of interest do you see any real world difference between 25Mbs and 100Mbs especially when going to US sites? I kniw it's not scientific but I rarely get more than 3-4Mbs when doing speedtests on US sites and the best I have seen on a well seeded torrent is about 1.2MBs.

I have 100Mbs symmetric as a backup connection  at work but haven't seen much improvement over the 25Mbs it replaced, especially for international traffic.

Staying in Wellington. Check out my AirBnB in the Wellington CBD.  https://www.airbnb.co.nz/h/wellycbd  PM me and mention GZ to get a 15% discount and no AirBnB charges.

Not for web browsing, you won't see anything like that.

So for most of us the price benefit will be the biggest benefit.

I'm on cable and whenever I look at other ISPs the money I can save is never enough to offset the consistent connection I get.

Well done TCL. I'll save at least $240 a year and I'll be a happier customer.

I'm on the top plan already, so I'll be saving $888 a year. Can't be happier.

Congratulations to those who are on 40GB and higher plans who are making savings which are bigger the larger the plan.

I wonder what percentage of all TelstraClear Cable users are actually on plans of 60GB or higher? I suspect that most customers are on 20GB or less so do not benefit at all from the new pricing. I'm guessing only 1 or 2% of cable customers are on these larger plans so the loss in income to TelstraClear from the big users would be less than if all customers were given a $2 price reduction.

Perhaps someone can post here what percentage of cable customers will benefit from the price reductions particularly those on 60GB plans or greater as 40 GB customers will only save a modest $4 per month.

TCL would guard that sort of information with their lives - about as commercially sensitive as you get!

Warpspeed here I come! woot!

Currently on 90GB plan but use about 150-200GB per month so having 120GB for a slightly lower price ($4) before I hit overage is awesome. Plus the added benifit of 25Mbs.

I think Gary really did address this question/issue.

The bottom line is that there is simply a minimum service cost for each network.  The modem is a fixed asset with a fixed buy price.  If you use it to deliver 2gb or 200gb there's very little cost difference.

200/25/2 will have a higher cost than 2/15/2 because Telstra will have to commit more network CIR to the 200/25/2 customer but the impact on billing, CPE, helpdesk is almost moot in my view.

Per the thread in my signature, the real solution is just to move pstn to voip and transfer your spend.  You should also look at moving your TV spend.  Sure, if your a sports fan then Sky is your only option, but if you're a movie buff then it's time to look at iTunes/AppleTV.

It's interesting that in Australia I think Telstra were running their D2 network at up to 40mbit.

geek4me, you're probably right.

In past TCL announcements, I've twice been on a plan that was too high to gain any benefit from the changes. One time I downgraded my plan because the faster speed, which I needed at the time, became available for a lower cap. I then got taken to the cleaners when we went well over the cap - one of my daughters decided to watch a lot of TV on Youtube.

So don't begrudge us our benefits/savings this time.

When I was reviewing plans from different ISPs a couple of years ago, I noticed that TCL pricing for high caps appeared to include a premium for the fast speed because it was not available from almost all other ISPs. Maybe the money went to pay for infrastructure upgrades or maybe to subsidise low cap plans. Whatever the case, I think that TCL are now rectifying the disparity now that other ISPs have technology that is more competitive [edit] and more cheaply priced.

Exactly right. In a price adjustment a few months back us on 120GB plan didn't get anything...

I don't begrudge those who are saving, I'm happy for you all! I was just wondering how many of you there are. Tongue Out
