mattwnz:
coffeebaron: For anyone who wants to post pictures info etc of the RBI towers etc.

Here's the new?tower for Puketaha, Waikato. Speed test on Nokia N8 was around 6mbps,?but a DC or other device should be able to pull a bit more. Coverage?dropped off fairly quickly due to still being in testing / optimisation phase.

It's a design marvel. Glad they used some awesome designers on that, so it wouldn't be just another ugly pylon on the landscape - not. Guess at least it is near all the other ugly pylons, so it has friends.

HEY! I'm sure the tower has feelings... :P

*Insert big spe*dtest result here*

codyc1515: Interesting, the only one that I've seen designed like that before was in Geraldine.

Haha
I was just in Geraldine a few weeks ago setting up a rural broadband system

Basically this is just one of the many types of tower designs that will be avaliable.
I would not be surprised if this was a re-used tower from somewhere else.

If you look at many telecom exchanges, they have one of these attached with the old microwave backhaul dish on top, which they have added cellular antennas to as its a cheap place to put a cell tower - on a structure thats already there.

Cant really say much - a mail drop was done recently and registrations of interest were called for from the local rural community outside of geraldine. I went down to help set up the main transmitter site and train up the local installer.

I am not sure if they have launched yet or are accepting signups.
Its not one of the national telcos though - local company.

All good, if it's rural broadband related, then I consider it "on topic". So carry on :)
