stevenz: ADSL2+ upload speeds are always painfully slow. If you need to upload that much data you may need to look into getting VDSL or cable, especially if it's for commercial purposes. I've yet to see an ADSL device get a significantly better upstream speed than around 9000Mbps (a bit over 100Kb/sec)

Their quoted "maximum" is only maximum relative to the capabilities of the format which is a theoretical peak of 1.4Mbps upstream which equates to around 175Kb/sec upload. That's the absolute best theoretical maximum that you could hope for, odds of getting better than 80% of that are pretty much nil due to line loss etc.

Maybe save the files in a lossless format if it wouldn't kill bitdepth etc?

I don't think cable would be an option out here and I doubt VDSL is either.

We are a whole 2.8 kms from the village square but to hear the Post, the electricity company, the courier companies, the phone companies etc you would think we lived in a yurt in Mongolia you could only find with a GPS!!

I can't even pick up Radio New Zealand clearly on an FM radio, much less get cable internet...!

This doesn't really help your cause, but I just ran some tests (used to have a shocking line before the cabinetisation roll out came to our neck of the woods). Our voda naked connection is steaming along - all on the supplied HG556a with VoIP enabled.

Have you looked at the ADSL/VDSL availability maps and plonked your address in? http://www.chorus.co.nz/service-availability-tool

What is the maximum speeds the Vodafone Complete wireless router can support? is it N certified? Also, if you are on Slingshot, and have that router will it degrade performance? Can you still get technical support?

Oh and how come I see people can get download speeds of up to 14mbps wheras I can get about 5mbps on my DLink g604t router? is it just the router? so if i have the vodafone complete wireless router, will it improve my speeds?

Speed is also relevant to distane from the exchange / cabinet not just the modem you are using

You are right - you have the speed I want..!

The upshot of my call to VF was that we are on something that goes by the odd name of a Conklin. I thought that was a character in Robert Ludlum's Jason Bourne books, but apparently it is some sort of tech gizmo that extends ADSL to those of us living in the bundu, a whole 2.8km from a cabinet...!

The VF guy (who was excellent) said that it probably ought to be faster than it is, but that it probably won't ever be as fast as yours is.

We have arranged for the tech department to do some line wizarding to see if they can make it any faster.

The moral of this story is don't try and run your business anywhere even vaguely rural if you want a speedy internet connection, it seems.

Heres the exchange map, just to show you how close we are to nirvana!! To drive from our house (where the pin is) to the boundary of the pink bit would take 40 seconds. To the green bit, 2 minutes.

It could be stuck on ADSL rather than ADSL2+. Check the router settings and see what the connect speeds are versus what you're getting and what the attenuation rates are, make sure it's connecting with ADSL2, and failing that you might need to call VF to get them to check at their end.
