How do you access advanced settings on VF HG556 modem?

I know you can do this as I have done it before and I have found some instructions that say login as 'admin'.

However, I cannot seem to actually log out - if I click log out, it just returns me back to the 'home' screen with the same menu as normal, I never have the opportunity to enter a new user and password.

What I want to do is check what the ADSL connection setting is and see if ADSL 2 is any faster following our recent cabinet upgrades in the area.

I can't do that as the modem never gives me a chance to log in or out. If I click log out, I just end up back at the home screen already logged in same as before.

Stats are

However Speedtest gives different results - 3.1 downstream and 0,70 upstream approx

Has your browser stored the user name and Password?

Line stats do not mean that is the speed you will get

Possibly; I am using Safari.

However, I would think it ought to still log out when asked to do so. I will log in on another user account and see if I can get any joy that way.

3.1MB/sec can't be right, that's faster than the theoretical maximum speed that ADSL2+ allows, something is getting cached somewhere.

Clear your cookies & cache. You should be able to login with username and password of advanced instead of the other user/pass combo as well.

Cache etc cleared and ran Speedtest again.

Here are the results as of 2 minutes ago!

I did manage to get in under advanced by changing user to a 'spare' account I keep on the Mac for just such things.

Every mode of connection is active - the only unchecked option is SRA.

That speed seems about as I'd expect. A good ADSL connection is usually 1.5MB-2MB/sec, they usually seem to sit around the 1.5MB/sec mark though in my experience, unless you're very close to the exchange, have a good quality filter and good quality phone lines inside & outside the house.

It is no faster than it was before they upgraded the local cabinets in December last year however.

I will ask VF to check it. It's woefully slow for real life use really. Imagine using cloud storage in my photography business and backing up a library of 50MB files (15,000 of them!) over a connection that speed. I'd have to go on holiday for a month....;-)

The man on the other end agrees with you and thinks the profile is wrong. He is just away from the phone talking to whoever he needs to to arrange a change.

Don't know what is involved in making the change though so no idea how long that will take to action.

That's the absolute best theoretical maximum that you could hope for, odds of getting better than 80% of that are pretty much nil due to line loss etc.

Maybe save the files in a lossless format if it wouldn't kill bitdepth etc?

I think you mean around 900Kbps (a bit over 100KB/sec) .

Vodafone does seem to enable Annex M on their DSLAM's but it seems to be limited somehow (perhaps by the technology using it) to around a max of 1.1Mbps upload although the theoretical max of the technology is 3.5Mbps.
