Thats true but when people seem to have a 'poor me' moment then we get to hassle you about it.

If you are unhappy with Vodafone then switch to Telecom

Or 2 more MVNOs (Mobile Virtual Network operators), which I personally think provides quick and effective competition...

MVNOs are actually one of those things that don't work well. Experience in the USA where there were big ones show this. See ESPN Mobile for example, folding after less than one year.

What can a MVNO offer? They are only branding and reselling something another company offer. They can't offer for much less than the original one. How do they differentiate? They have to propose something others don't have.

ESPN Mobile had the sports buffs on sight - and it didn't work. Even with all the air time on TV it failed.

So?

Virgin Mobile UK being the exception to the rule.

And when the MVNO's become too big the carriers just buy them out (Virgin Mobile Australia) - saves them the cost of acquiring the customers in the first place.

Actually, no, that's not quite true... Besides Virgin Mobile, EasyMobile is another successful story, esp in the Netherlands where I was for sometime....

Of course, if you have a MVNO such as TelstraClear which basically resells Vodafone's service, you're not going to have any advanatage or much competition at all. Nor iHug (speculating btw) if it just lumps Vodafone with its services later on with its 023 (correct???) prefix...

BUT, if you have have MVNOs setup that run different business models compared to Vodafone, then it's different. Vodafone and Telecom are big corporate companies with traditional business models. If you bring in a MVNO such as EasyMobile (which runs a no frills; no retail shops, just SIM-by-mail & slot-into-phone topup-by-credit card), as an example, then that might provide much needed competition in NZ.

OR, how about a MVNO that provides services JUST in auckland or wellington? So, it can possibly negotiate and setup a deal that offers cheaper calling rates for customers within the same MVNO work, ie, within the same city.

All I'm saying is, if a MVNO simply "re-sells" another companies' services, you're right, there's not much point. But if we can allow MVNOs to enter the market based on renting the network as part of a wholesale deal, then using that ability to create new services, then it might just work quite well, for NZ and for consumers eventually...

I think the free month TXT is an offer to those who are on You Choose. As my sister is not on You Choose but she get the "373" txt, however my partner and I are on You Choose and we both received the TXT "yes" for 1000 free txts for a month.

So this drew me to another view about this... maybe this free 1000 txts is a 021/029 only TXT. However as the replied txt do not actually specify what/how do you use this free 1000 txts.

Yes you need to be invited to apply for the txt add ons. Certain You Choose customers were offered 1000 021/029 txts, and Motormouth was offered 500 021/029 txts.
