I have 130/10 cable in Stokes Valley and have found the evening congestion really bad lately, especially international speeds. I have friends living in London and we try to Skype regularly but if we do it in the evening it becomes unusable and just robotic so there's no point. I ran a few speedtests to the UK at this time and it was ~2mbps down and 1mbps up. I have also found Youtube buffering in the evenings some nights as well.

Going off topic, This thread is about local peak time can you advise what your local speed is like?

I'll have to test tonight. Isn't international speed just as relevant since nearly anything relevant will be international e.g. streaming services?

International is not related to this thread we are only interested in national / local

John's point is that this thread is specifically related to the current VF congestion issues which manifest in slow local speeds. While local speeds directly impact international speeds the same is not true in reverse. Because there are so many factors that affect international speeds, many outside Vodafone's control, they're not a useful measure of the local network.

If you do a speed test to http://wellington.speedtest.vodafone.co.nz/ you will be able to determine if it's an international issue or if it's local congestion (which is what this thread is about).

I respectfully disagree it's off topic. On severely congested links the most impacted services are long tcp threads. So I can guarantee that if they are a on a congested link that will impact uk traffic.

I just had to switch to my backup connection - Snap Internet 10Mbps ADSL, because Vodafone cable simply died here. Even resolving names is taking forever. The 10 Mbps DSL connection is faster and works.

School holidays just killed HFC now.

Indeed, not much point in having fast local speed if all international is slow

My local speed tests are much better tonight at around 66/10...

...but the internet in general is completely unusable. Host names resolve sometimes but one minute later time out. Netflix runs full tilt for two minutes then drops and won't load at all. I cant even load netflix.com in a browser at the moment. Half the stuff.co.nz page loads then times out. Even sites I know to be 100% New Zealand hosted are inaccessible.

Maybe issues rolling out the new hardware? Either way, I'm giving up for tonight.
