Starscream122:

Update:

I changed IP Pool Start Address to 192.168.1.5 and then I was able to change the IP address to 192.168.1.2 and then turn DHCP off again.

So the issue was the start pool address conflicting with the modems IP address.. However with DHCP disabled it should not have done that.

Is there a sequence I should be using for the DHCP start Pool even though I am not using DHCP or is 192.168.1.5 fine?

I think any other ip could be ok. I just chose 5 at random.

Ta da ! Message #1921941

The point is that the router's DHCP needs to be turned on to enliven all the parts of the DHCP set up, but can then subsequently itself be turned off.

Once you have made the Start/Assign change, and turned DHCP off, the DHCP pool for that device no longer plays any part ... viz. it's asleep wink

Hi there,

Just wondering I was made to resign last year in November but I didn't get the new vodafone ultra hub.

Am I still able to get the new one? as my old has many issues with wifi strength/signal etc...and it looks like some of those issues could be sorted using the new ultra hub.

Cheers

I have been sent a Vodafone Ultra Hub in early March18 and had lots of problems and now getting a new HG659.  I changed the default IP number from 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.254 and made the DCHP range a bit smaller to protect a few static IP numbers for P2P links etc.

The problems

1.  Setting a static IP number for a devices caused my DNS to stop and computers no logger to see web sites.

2.  My SPA and Alarm can not be seen from my phone app at home or away from home.

3.  Only three LAN ports on the back

4.  DDNS did not work, tried for hours.

I have to keep using it as when I went to VDSL I was put on VOIP and only works on this router.

I had a HG659 in the past (Feb/March) and worked fine for everything above on ADSL and VDSL, no VOIP back then. The HG659 I had was second hand and they can not put in the SIP settings as the Serial number is already used.  So I'm getting a new one that I will need to configure up.  IMHO the  Vodafone Ultra Hub is only good if you do not change any settings are not expecting things like Aircon, Alarm, SPA to talk through it.

Hopefully the new HG659 will fix all the problems.  Hours and Hours wasted for a bit faster internet.

Mike

Ok massive thread, so apologies if the answer is already in here!

We’ve just move from vdsl to fibre, and from the hg659? To the new ultrahub.

Local Lan throughout is noticeably slower than previously.

I’ve hanged cables to all CAT 6a but am getting buffering (wired TV reading from PC Drive, both cat 6 min I wired) that we never had before.

Appreciate any points I can investigate to tweak/improve on the ultrahub please?

Old Huawei was much better in this regard.

I spoke to Vodafone business for another reason and they are not using the Ultrahub for business.  It appears the Vodafone Ultrahub (I think it is a Technicolor product) has quite a number of bugs.  I found that my VDSL was slower on the Ultrahub and now on a HG659 again.  Also the Ultra hub does not support remote management for Vodafone so harder for them to help you.

Put the Huawei back then.

Is that an option? (Is fibre a source option in the Huawei?)

And are there any config options I don’t know about that could be affecting the lab throughout of the ultrahub?

I’d assumed newer was better, but is this not the case in this instance?

I would be trying to prove that the LAN to LAN throughput is subpar with iperf. You can the test the Huawei throughput as a comparison.

Has anyone experienced issues with outgoing VPN connections?  Client has a staff member working from home part time, and if the Windows 10 VPN L2TP connection drops it cannot immediately be re-established.  Rebooting the router allows the VPN to be re-established promptly.
