There's already been some great results and lots more to come.

You say that but I don’t think anyone here has reported any kind of consistent improvement. It would be helpful if you could tell us the areas that have had the work done. I say this because whilst things for me in Karori have not been as awful as they were 3(!!!) months ago, it is not up to the standard that it should be; ie on nights when customers in other areas have been reporting snail’s pace download speed and unusable Netfllix, I have been getting 30-40Mbps and Netflix has sometimes achieved 1080p. This is without doubt better than what others are getting but if VF consider Karori to be fixed then I have to say that 50% of my paid for service is not good enough.

Perhaps if this isn’t fixed 6 months after this debacle began VF should offer cable customers a VDSL installation for free as the cable service is not up to scratch when people most want to use it. Its all very well saying that for 75% of the time it is ok but for me the other 25% of the time equates to 100% of the actual time I want to use it.

As I have covered not just the HFC nodes are not getting upgraded, Congestion is in more than one part of the network

New hardware is here now getting installed as fast as possible

I've had consistently better speeds this week. Peak hours are closer to 40Mbps now, instead of the 3Mbps I was getting a couple of weeks ago.

I've noticed a gradual improvement too (Island Bay)  smile

In May I was getting 3Mbps at 9pm - now I'm typically getting 85Mbps at 9pm.

I received this (addressed) letter from Vodafone today.

The envelope was printed "Network update" with the image of a piglet.

dated 7 May 2015

Full stream ahead, Wellington

Hi there,
We're upgrading our network to improve data speeds in your area.

With the huge success of streaming video services such as Netflix and NEON, we're seeing massive spikes in demand for data across New Zealand, and on Wellington's local cable network. In fact, it's a 30% increase in data usage on our network every month!
That's why we are spending millions ensuring your network not only meets current data needs, but future ones too.
At different times of the day, you may have noticed your network speeds have slowed as it's trying to meet demand. We want you to be able to use the network to your heart's content. So we're putting steps in place to upgrade our network to ensure consistent and reliable fast speeds.
You'll notice two step-changes of improvement over the next couple of months as we release the network enhancements we're currently working on. You will see improvements in your Broadband speed by August and then experience consistent and reliable fast speeds from September.
After that, it will be 'full stream ahead' for all our Vodafone customers so you can make the most of doing more of what you love online.

Regards
TonyBaird
Technology Director

Am I the only person on VF Cable 100/10 who isn't getting poor performance in Wellington? I'm up in Woodridge / Newlands and every time I run a speed test I get about 108-110mb down / 8.5-9ish up and 4-8ms ping (on Wifi).

Almost starting to feel left out having good performance?!?

100/10 here in Petone. Don't notice congestion and get 90+ even at peak times. I have other performance issues that are being looked in to though.

You are one of the lucky few smile

The "9pm" peak dip is getting wider.

I'm looking forward to September.

This is curious. Why would they sit on the letters for 2 months? Did they think they could get away with not bringing it to people's attention, or perhaps they realised that people wouldn't be happy to see that it was going to take so long to fix the issue?

Or they just waited until they has a coherent plan in place with dates for the necessary hardware locked in.

Oh... I missed your point entirely. I's guess it was a typo or a template not updated. It seems unlikely they would have printed it out and stuffed it away somewhere for two months.

Something seems funky with international bandwidth again. There was a new video on one of my YouTube channels that I went to watch, and it's buffering horrendously, likely because it hasn't propagated across YouTube's CDN yet. YouTube's "stats for nerds" has me pegged at a whopping...800 Kbps. The speed test result isn't much better.

The Wellington server shows some usual congestion issues as well. I'm pulling about 40-60 Mbps around peak hours, with the ever-so-common fluctuations that occasionally push it into significantly worse-off territory.

We haven't received any letter or anything yet here in Island Bay. It sounds like things are finally being pushed into full momentum, though, so at least that's promising.

My fault entirely - my transcription error when typing out the letter.
Vodafone actually dated the letter 7 July.   Sorry about the confusion caused.frown
