darkknigh152: Yes, I suppose I have to agree with you there. It does make complete sense that adding more bandwidth won't alleviate the problem. I was a bit annoyed when I posted it because, as someone else put it, peak hours are generally when I want to use the internet for things like youtube and it was quite frustrating having to wait so long for a video to load.

The thing which has me confused about this whole bandwidth debacle is that unlike other ISP's which offer unlimited plans for $40
and then run out of bandwidth, XNET is priced on cost plus model where the more you buy of the service, the more it costs. So in
theory if you are selling lots of units, you actually have the money to purchase more units.

I would love to see a service which *I* could tag data  from my network as 'bulk' data and XNET would charge me less for data, and slow it down during peek times. I imagine the technology to do this consistantly across the various of networks out there, and the billing and support problems with this would rule this out as a mass market solution.

That would be a great idea, but not very easy to implement

Is there going to be any change in the near future? Because it has been 3 months to the day since these unusable speeds have started.
Talking to xNet does not help, as they do not even acknowledge there is a problem anymore Undecided
Has anyone been able to get any time frame or any information on whats going to happen?

There was a thread/post somewhere in this forum or another forum ( I cant find the thread/post at the moment) saying about At the Geekzone pizza evening (Wellington) freitasm was talking to maverick & maverick said to him that Xnet/WxC is currently working on this issue & they have some plans to solve this....

Xnet want to take there time on this to make sure they solve this problem the first time out rushing in & adding a quick fix like slowing down p2p (which is half the problem, if everyone on Xnet stop using p2p then this problem would not be as bad)

If you’re unhappy with Xnet International speeds & you can’t wait intill this gets fixed, then you should swap ISP’s.

I see that SNAP Internet is doing a Full Speed unlimited download at night and 128k during the day plan for $40. Maybe Xnet will try something similar for the leeches

If they did, it'd be the opposite to the Snap plan. 128k at peak times, and full speed the rest of the day.

I have switch ISP and so far very happy and glad i did.

There is one thing i didnt understand with WxC and that is, its not like they got a set price for unlimited download. it doesnt make sense when their plans is based on usage. so what ever i download, upload, i am paying for. what is their problem? cant exactly remember, but dont they charge $1 something per gig?

During heavy rain if your roof down pipes are too small the gutters will overflow and make a mess.  If you ISP connection is too thin, there are consequences as well.  WxC is a very small ISP (they do not advertise anywhere, purely word of mouth) but recently they have grown a lot.  Their pipe is too small, so I guess they are getting a larger pipe.  Being NZ, I would guess there are no pipes and a new one needs to be built.  (Putting things in simple terms so more than just technical people can relate to it.)

I can not see that there was ever a problem with unlimited download, it is simply that there is no more bandwidth and as a small ISP they never had a lot of bandwidth.  And remember their #1 priority is VFX, so they will sacrifice download performance for voice performance when they have to.

(This is just my thoughts and I have zero info from WxC.)

This was posted on the previous page in this discussion.

Kyro, you can see how those discussions with 20 plus pages don't help - people don't bother reading not even the last page for a bit more information. Your question about having more information about changes in the near future was already answered, as correctly pointed by stu28.

People, you guys/gals should read at least one page before the last to always see if things have changed or more information saurfaced. This would help reduce the noise ratio.

I suspect they have sorted it out, people are starting to get ADSL2+ speeds.  I'm now getting over 8Mbps where max before was 6.5Mbps to 7Mbps.  And LA is now 6.5Mbps and Sydney 2.5Mbps where as it was 3Mbps and 1.2Mbps.

I had already read your "post" before i posted (so please dont assume i didnt). That post does not explain WHAT is going to be happening, it just speculates that "something might in some future data possibly happen", which is like saying, "xNet might be providing free unlimited broadband to everyone sometime".

Exactly why I pointed out...

Your question was "Is there going to be any change in the near future? Because it has been 3 months to the day since these unusable speeds have started."

You did not ask "what" you asked "if" and my previous post clearly states an answer to "if". I can't say what is going to happen because what I know is only an incomplete view of the whole offering, so it would be silly disclosing here, raising expectations that could be wrong.

Instead I clearly posted that something is coming. And that's the answer to your question "Is there going to be any change in the near future?"...

I'm not sure about this Neil, I have few websites hosted in the US. I have just tried to upload some files (17MB) I had 4 disconnections with FUSION. When I patch it through TCNZ Pro broadband all sweet, upload completed in 4 minutes.

WXC are experts in VOIP but the FUSION is a highly decorated business tactic they have played on us. If you are ISP and new in th business don't you think of the worse case scenarios? you should be ready for any number of customers that will sign up...
should not be saying oh... we have unexpected customers signed up after the FUSION.

WXC has provided misleading information during the promoting/sale of the service FUSION. I hope if there is a resolution to this its better be soon.

Yay! I can't stream anything!
(I know it's completely unhelpful me saying this, but it's on par with the service)
