Kodiack: ... We haven't received any letter or anything yet here in Island Bay. It sounds like things are finally being pushed into full momentum, though, so at least that's promising.

I'm in Island Bay and I got my copy (dated 7 July) on 11 July.

I've just done a speedtest now:

Definite improvement on the last few days, previously getting 5-15Mb/s between about 8-11pm

I'm located in Strathmore.

I'm in Christchurch on 50/2 cable, and just got the same letter mentioned in this thread. Identical text but with Wellington replaced by Canterbury - oh, and the guy and piglet are wearing red and black rugby jerseys, of course.

I'm getting similar speeds and have noticed a similar improvement. A few brief, but significant drops in performance here and there but all in all, much better.

In Miramar and my connection has been patchy all night with most speed tests below 1Mb per sec and for the last 20 minutes my connection has completely died.

It's beyond a joke.

Ordered cable from VF.
Got Naked Cable Broadband Unlimited 100Mbps.
Hopefully I've made the right choice for the long run until I get fibre or move somewhere with fibre.
This seems like the next best thing to fibre if you want fast speeds anyway..

Anyone have an idea how long it'll take for the first technician to arrive to setup wiring? I haven't got a date or anything yet. Also, is connection usually done the next day after wiring is done or is it usually a few days later? Or is there a chance both connection+wiring will be done on the same day?

Kind of excited though -- never used anything faster than 10Mbps before coming to NZ.

It pays to keep in touch with the helpdesk to find out when your install is booked. After ordering cable I waited for two weeks and after hearing nothing gave them a call, good thing I did as I was not even booked in for a install.

We got our cable connected within a week (in Wellington) and were connected immediately.

This was 2 years ago, with TelstraClear, just before the Vodafone takeover - things may be slower now.

Thanks for the tips guys. I've gotten a direct number (Mon-Fri) to their UFB provisioning team where I can check the status of my order.

So one last question, how is it like for power users that download a lot? Would be nice if people on the unlimited cable plan could chime in. Are you downloading heavy with no issues? Is P2P throttled? Is there any throttling from Vodafone at all? By heavy I mean 500GB-1TB+ per month.. That isn't much but yeah just putting a rough figure.

International bandwidth is disgustingly horrible tonight. I can't watch any new YouTube videos without buffering unless I drop to 360p or less...

My peak speeds for YouTube videos that haven't hit a local CDN server are hovering around ~2.5 Mbps. Bleh. National speeds are better, but the congestion problems are incredibly apparent tonight.
