Hey All

I'm in the same boat as many above. I've been recording speedtest results over a fortnight now and have found that from after midnight or 1am I can get the full 100mb/s (130? not really seen that for a while to be honest) and 10mb/s up

The slow down starts around 4pm when I can get to about 25mb/s but by 6:30 or 7 until 10:30 or 11 I'm lucky to get 2-3mb/s down as low as 500-800kb/s for some of that.

It's not my gear or config - because as soon as this peak use time passes, we're all good again.

It is frustrating (take note vodafone) because I'm paying for a premium service, but only getting something slightly better than dialup effectively (the tested speed is what I get to vodafone, not beyond!) at the times I'm home to use it.

I keep hearing some fixes are on the way - I hope they are fixes and not just partial remediation.

I would also like to see or know that some form of QOS is in place on the network ensuring that streaming video type services aren't damaging normal internet use with complete disregard

Actually the service is graded as "best effort" - if you want a "premium" service it would cost many hundreds of dollars per month.
Having said that, have you logged a fault with them?

Here is the TrueNet Wellington cable data for the last week.

These are the hourly average downstream speeds for 11 Wellington cable users over the past 7 days.

The average 9am speed is 100Mbps.
The average 9pm speed is 8.8Mbps (slow, but much better than dial-up speeds).

No significant change since last week.

I'm kind of wishing I participate in the stats, I'm down to 1.7Mb/s sometimes, so it's conceivable that there are even worse off customers than me. That said, I think people are forgetting how slow dialup was 😃 0.056Mb/s.

Remember that these are AVERAGE figures from a small sample of 11 (I am one of them), averaged over a week - peak-time speeds are sometimes slower, and sometimes faster, than 8.8Mbs.
Average is not the same as "sometimes" - sometimes I get 1.7Mbps too. undecided

Fault logged yeah - they said on the phone that everything is good and no problems - that was before I read this thread ;)

Been trying to call them again tonight... on hold for 2 1/2 hours so far... cut off 3 times.

Best effort - fully understand this etc - 500-800 mbps last night isn't even token effort though I have to say, especially when their support guys say "no problem here, it's just that your modem has been online for 147 days". Yes they tried that one one me for real.

I think it was an attempt at a Jedi mind trick "this is not the incident you're looking for" ;)

I've been a cable customer as long as there as been cable (I was the saturn training install site for the new techs about a million years ago ;) ) and have to say that the customer support is at it most stretched, and while I fully accept that when cool new stuff like netflix turns up there will be massive changes in use culture - what really disappoints is the lack of real communication.

VF - Tell us what the real problems are. Tell us whats really happening to resolve it.

<pause to finally talk to helpdesk>

.... VF just answered the phone and I managed to get onto an above-first-level-helpdesk guy who says the current cable rollout will see the speeds back up to normal around end of August

I've encouraged them to provide someone better than the minimalist information to users and to their phone staff. That would alleviate a lot of frustration.

Communication = good

56kbps was heaven! telecom never got above 46kbps provisioned and my first modem was 600baud ;)

The best time to call is 7am to 7:30am.

Have you received the VF "Network upgrade" letter yet? (dated 7 July)
If not, see earlier in this thread.

And for how much we pay, that shouldn't even be something that ever needs to be said.

It's a sad day when I'm beginning to yearn for the days of olde, sharing 12 Mbps ADSL2+ with well over a dozen other people. At least that connection had consistent performance, and didn't cost as much to boot...

Every time I've called before 8am I've been told that the people that handle my account don't start work until 8 am.

Scotty1986: I'm getting connected on Tuesday in Woodridge/Newlands, if the speeds are not consistent and high by September I am outta there, will go to VDSL with MyRepublic (they now offer VDSL, but are not advertising it). Only warning Vodafone. TBH I'm not happy that I had to sign up with Vodafone anyway, I have had terrible dealings with them in the past from over a year ago (in fact I'm still getting billed!)But without fibre in my area yet I did not have much choice.

You are still getting billed for what?

Old cellphones plan, and old broadband plan. Get monthly email regarding the cell, but its in a small credit, which I assume is why I'm still getting the bill. But also have gotten a letter a couple times from a broadband plan. Have not got one for couple of months now and have moved anyway. To be honest, I did not deal with it because the thought of calling up the call centre was enough to make me scream after all the issues I had had.

Just got connected today. First test was done at 1.25pm

This one at 8.05pm

That's faster than my fibre connection at my last house. Have noticed the Steam NZ download servers are very slow, wont even reach a 500kbps. But the NSW server is blazing along at 12Mbps. Has anybody else noticed this?

Not here. Not terrible but the timeouts and drops in connections continues

You make it sound like it's par for the course for you at least, then. :P

It's been getting progressively worse here. I actually ran a speed test to Sydney and didn't even break 5 Mbps, and this is my result at 8:24 PM:

My snide comments about missing ADSL2+ may unfortunately not be entirely in jest.

It'll be fun to see how large of a refund and/or bill reduction we can get from Vodafone once it's finally ironed out, though. I'm hoping for a fairly decent sum, since ADSL at peak hours is both faster and cheaper.

What I meant is that "speed" is not 130 Mbps but 32 Mbps is not "slow". But the timeouts, pages not loading because Google services aren't reachable and other things make it unsusable.

Posting this from my Snap 2degrees DSL connection at 10 Mbps, which is faster than my 30 Mbps cable.
