I really feel for you guys, and I swear I'm not rubbing my speeds in, I am only contributing so Vodafone can get accurate results from all areas. These are probably considered off peak times, around 11pm Sunday. I am one of the lucky ones that SO FAR get consistent speeds. I have only been on cable for a week though and have been working late most nights. But will get some good testing in this coming week during peak times, but the couple of tests I did mange to get during peak were same as off peak times. Edit: Forgot to mention I'm in Woodridge/Newlands area in Wellington.

Christchurch, cable, 50/2 speed. Around 8:30 last night the average of a few tests was 4.2 Mbps down.

Better than some obviously, but I did realise one thing: from memory, that is (excluding hardware faults) possibly the lowest speedtest download test result to the nearest local TCL/VF server I have ever had on cable even including the 15/2 speed days.

The key time to test is 9pm - in the middle of the evening dip.  undecided

I think something bad must have really been going on last night as I'm in Kapiti on 50/2 and it was the first time I've really noticed any issues. (Although interestingly I've been trying to get Steam to update Team Fortress 2 and it seems to constantly run at about 15Kb/s download - tried multiple times of day over multiple days - which is odd as I'd have thought it would be served from Vodafone's local Steam mirror - or does that not exist anymore?)

There is a thread about this. Apparently most people are choosing a NSW server to get their steam updates from as it is not going well on cable setting NZ as your preferred place.

Thanks for the info - I hadn't actually seen the new threads on here as I'd only ever been popping in from the email notifications :)

According to TrueNet (latest stats), your speed is slightly above average for 10pm on Wellington cable.

Things can only get better ...

Set your updates for earlier in the day. you'll find it's going pretty much full speed then

The only thing thats really "going wrong" is that everyones trying to use all the new toys (net flicks etc) with disregard to the currently unavailable network capacity.

Like I've been saying - if people just chill out for a few weeks till VF get the network up to spec, and do simple things like set their pirate video leeching and updates to times outside peek capacity then we can all enjoy normal service pretty much for a next few weeks.

I think, putting aside your judgements about what people are doing with their broadband, that you are neglecting the fact that people are paying for a service that they are demonstrably not getting. I wonder what view the commerce commission or telecommunications commissioner would take of this? Its not like it has been an isolated event.

I think its about time VF recognised that they are providing a truly suboptimal service, and reflected this in people's bills until they resume service that people are paying for (and yes I know that this is not a business SLA, but there are requirements to provide what you advertise for etc ). And yes I know that it says 'up to 130 MBs), but come on......

Dude, that would be the most awesome trolling if I didn't think think you were genuinely trying to be helpful. This has been raging on since December for some of us, the amount of chill available is getting seriously low.

Actually it won't as the issue has nothing to do with the current congestion and is more to do with the fact that there appears to be problems with the NZ based (Vodafone only?) Steam Infrastructure.

Also it's a little hard to shift my usage to non-peak times when during non-peak times I'm either sleeping or working. Hence the reason the peak period is the peak period and if I wasn't going to use my connection for anymore than browsing a few web pages, then it'd be kind of a waste of money...
