If your copper line was aerial, that's the path they follow.
I've lived in a place (many years ago) where the cable line was delivered underground, yet the copper line was aerial.
One NZ better sharpen their pencils. I note 2 degrees have a sale on which makes them rather attractive.
HFC Cable Update: Man from Downer came this morning, up the pole (snip snip) reached over to house (snip), done! About 6 minutes I'd say.
Anyone want a C-COR Broadband Isolator?
Eva888:
The dreaded email arrived today. Island Bay turning off HFC by 23 March.
ugh... same here, very disappointing
I switched ISP to One.nz when I moved house solely for the superiority of HFC, and it was short lived
was trying to assess what my options were for complaining about it, but finding and checking this thread, seems like it would be a pointless exercise to try and argue it

Correct.
If any consolation, since moving from HFC to fibre, our internet experience has improved.
It’s not the experience I’m worried about, it’s the hassle attached to making the change since we have a tenant downstairs to liaise with that will most likely also feed from our fibre modem unless he goes mobile.
IMHO, the drop from 950-ish to 550-ish mbps is not noticeable in any way. Also, price is slightly cheaper than before plus the cash credit and newer router all helps.
Anything can happen in the next 12 months 😃. And the T's&C's say the discounted plan expires after 12 months, "... or if you switch or re-sign your plan", which suggests retention of customer at that point on same pricing?
@Eva888 ... honestly, the change over went very smoothly, as I have indicated earlier. Just phone the 0800 number, which is dedicated to the HFC closure .... ensure you have your account PIN to hand for verification purposes.
They do run through the new contract terms again (probably a legal requirement), and then ask for suitable activation dates and times ... usually a few days ahead. HFC continues until then. The new deco router turned up by courier within 3 days. After getting a confirmed date and time, that morning I turned on the ONT (two green lights), plugged in network cable between ONT and router, and powered up router.
About 15 minutes after the agreed activation time the router blue light went green, so took computer cable out of UltraHub and put into Deco, and immediately had internet connection. Five minutes later got TXT confirming Fibre was now active.
Another 5 minutes later, the HFC feed to our TV went dead, so assumed that was now defunct and UltraHub & Technicolor cable modem could be turned off and dismantled.
Hope this helps.

This mirrors my experience exactly. I cannot fault One on this, it was a hands on, very well managed, hassle free switch over.
PS As for other users of your network, in place of the UltraHub use a 5-port switch for their connection. Or, if wifi, simply use the new router's WSP and have your tenant re-connect that way.
The Deco interface App is easy to navigate if you want to change wifi settings to what you had previously on the UltraHub ... I found it better on a tablet rather than small phone screen.
Is there a published timetable of when each suburb is going to have the cable network removed from the street and the lead-ins snipped off the house?
There are so many houses connected physically from historical sales but would be on fibre now.
I just want to know when the guys with the loppers are coming to cut the cable - i havent been a cable customer for 2 years now.

For an extra $5 per month, you can get an additional Deco X50 access point which you could install in the downstairs tenancy for wifi sharing purposes.

Thanks but I don’t want to share our connection with anyone for security reasons and don’t want the responsibility.
Meanwhile I already have two Decos to service the far corners of the house. One NZ offers newer models which I hope they will replace the old ones with.
