"The router is fine"... Does it mean you test with another router and had the same behaviour?

We have an example here of someone who complained for weeks about his slow TelstraClear speeds, and then we found out he was using a crap Linksys PAP2T as a router, severely limiting packet switching capabilities, meaning low speeds. He obviously blamed TelstraClear for weeks before letting us know he was using that because his other router was out of action.

By the way, I don't mean to say there may not be a problem with TCL. But if a proxy problem existed for this long, a lot more people would have seen the effects - this happened a couple of weeks ago for example.

I say 'fine' because using alternate OpenDNS servers on the router are not producing hangs. And it sounds like others are experiencing the same thing.

If TelstraClear ( like some other ISP(s) ), allowed us to opt-out of having them mess with our HTTP requests, then we wouldn't need to have this thread every few months, we could just say "turn off the proxy and see if that helps".

Even if we switch out a router for another, and the problem persists, we could just as easily say "well, perhaps that router is bad too"... and if we take the router out all together (ignoring the fact that it would be impractical in most cases), we could just as easily say "well, perhaps the modem is bad"...

I propose that a strongly possible cause of dropped connections, null responses, etc is the transparent proxy, certainly it is the most unknown part of the equation, given the fact that it is a part of the system that actively hijacks your requests, does it's own DNS lookups, is of unknown specification, and is factually known to have failed in various manner (both widespread and localised) in the past.

But until it can be removed from the equation, we can not so much as hope to disprove that conjecture.

B'H'dar, not that I'm trying to defend the cache farm but there are problems further out than that.
I think Networklayer has got an overloaded interface. That isn't going to be helping your experience, unfortunately.

What kind of information would be helpful?
im a paradise customer if that makes a difference using paradise dns, (Never recived any email from tc informing me of change to dns and im subscribed to the paradise list thingy)

Depending on what you're after I'd suggest Wireshark or perhaps Fiddler2 of you don't use Firefox or Chrome which have plugins to monitor Http headers etc
