For months we've experienced webpages hanging on load, taking up to a few minutes to resolve and images on various website simply not loading. I'm fairly certain it isn't just me. I frequently need to use OpenDNS just to load some things, but of course this gets stuffed by TCL's proxy or whatever.

Sites include:

Pinterest
Tumblr
Various international news websites
Google Plus
A lot of others (mostly international I think)

Environment: OS X 10.7.3, Safari, Chrome.

We've got the recommended DNS server addresses active. While some of the above addresses seem fairly petty, when you're doing research it's incredibly frustrating when things are not loading as they should. Would love some clarity from TelstraClear on this.

I certainly haven't experienced any issues, or heard of any for months now.

There have been one ot two people recently post on here who had problems, and from memory in both cases they had routers configured to these new DNS settings, but were using other static DNS settings in their PC's.

What's interesting though is that when issues strike you'll normally see plenty of people posting on here, as is the case when their DNS servers or transparant proxy die.

The fact it's only you, and somebody else on twitter tends to indicate an isolated issue, which for all intent purposes could be something with your setups, rather than an ISP wide issue.

Is your MTU configured correctly?

Hey, just out of curiousity what is the best MTU value? My router MTU is set to 1500 on TCL Cable.

Im on cable as well and use the paradise dns, never bothered to see how different either server was, Try using the Secondary dns server as your first, see if that changes things. i notice with a couple of sites that wont load till after 10am in the morning which is just a pain

Doing a bit of ping testing, the largest payload I can get from Wellington to www.parc.com in Palo Alto is 1472 bytes (with Don't Fragment set).
Then figure 8 bytes of ICMP header, 20 of IP Header, giving you a figure of 1500 bytes.
Wiresharking the ping test, actual frame length on the wire is 1514 bytes.

Interestingly, if you set the DF bit via ping (-f) and try too large a payload, Ping tells you about it but doesn't actually put anything on the wire. I guess doing the maths before you yap on the network is a good thing.

I've noticed increased dropped connections over HTTP in the last week or so, usually visible in either nothing loading (or the connection closed error in your favourite browser), or css not loading. Not on any specific sites.

My assumption is that it's the infernal transparent proxy.

I'm also encountering the odd intermittent error with zero length replies, which I assume is related to the proxy as it happens on a variety of different sites over a variety of different times....

I've also had the "blank page" (i.e. zero-length) issue quite a bit recently.
