I just did a speedtest.net test to a random server in CA, USA. It took three tries to load the page, but once I did I got 6Mbps down and 2Mbps up, 200ms ping. Another random CA, USA server gave me 5Mbps down, 0.36Mbps up, and 450ms ping.
Web pages seem a little better today, but it's not peak time yet.
i wonder if telstraclear's recent issues have been made worse by orcon switching to telstraclear.

any2ix is one of the two biggest internet exchanges in los angeles/san jose (you can connect in either) so will include a lot of traffic.
Just another vote for the "things are shi*e" camp here.
Will try and get some testing done tomorrow and see what patterns\info I can see (although it seems more able bodies in prior posts are already scrying the problem....)
I think it's actually getting worse. International sites are timing out quite a bit tonight, facebook and photography forums. NZ sites like trademe and stuff are very fast as usual.
It is getting worse...(Cable anyways)...kind of weird tho as I am able to game in online games but not browse to international sites at an acceptable level.
Maybe this is another one of those "upstream provider" issues that TCL dont like getting involved.
It appears that I can get good(ish) sustained transfers e.g. 2Mbit from California which, albeit 3x slower than usual is fine. Pings are also a tad higher than usual but still sensible around 180ms, and pretty consistent.
Yet page elements each take 2-4s to load on affected sites.
Is it possible for there to be some issue that could make establishing connections very high latency, without actually having too much impact on the throughput of said connections once established?? To load an image from my server in a browser takes 1-1.5sec to start but achieves over 2Mbps.
