I'm finding lots of international sites slow - facebook, POTN, and my blog. Some international sites are fine, and all national sites seem fine. Anyone else having problems?

Same here. Really lousy response in Wellington today.

Staying in Wellington. Check out my AirBnB in the Wellington CBD.  https://www.airbnb.co.nz/h/wellycbd  PM me and mention GZ to get a 15% discount and no AirBnB charges.

That trace route tells you nothing about what's going on.

Interesting to notice that Reach has been renamed Telstra Global now.

You have to remember that there's a proxy farm in the space and also what's FaceBook served off?  Is it FB servers or Akaima (or what ever it's called) and are there local cache servers like the Google boxes?

I'd call the helpdesk, but really, there's no point, it's in some other country and they don't really understand anything about... well anything really. Script monkeys.

If it makes you feel better, it's just the same on non cable TC ADSL broadband too.
Actually it's a freakin joke all round with TelstraClear at the moment.

If you're on a business setup Timmmay you may want to point out that others can't view you own website. It's not coming up for me at the moment, http://www.wildphotography.co.nz/blog/ is not returning any page content, it only changes the title on the new tab at the top of the screen.

It's hosted in the US, it's working for me. There's really no point calling TC, and I'm not that worried about customers seeing it as they'll know their whole connection is screwy.

I've been thinking of getting local hosting to increase speed and reliability, I haven't yet because of price. This might be the thing that starts me thinking more seriously about it.

Glad to hear I'm not alone, I also have had appaling performance yesterday and today. Also understand the futility of calling the helpdesk.

Incredibly BAD at the moment. Tried to download a 50MB file and the speed was 5.9 kB/sec .... basically dialup speed.
Just started a new billing cycle too, think I'll exit near the end of the month.

Yeah their help centre is closed with the holiday and all so I've had to use the email contact form. (I'm querying my bill as well which is another story). It's so slow I had to fill their own form in 3 times before it would finally accept and send it!

I too am considering leaving TelstraClear shortly if this doesn't improve, and if needs be I'll slug it out to avoid the early termination fee. Sorry, I know this thread is about their cable service, but overall I don't think this company is doing very well at this.

Check out the graph half way down this recent report page:

Slow international cable speeds here in kapiti especially around 6-8pm each night. Its affecting web browsing as well.

Come on TCL spend some profit on more international bandwidth...

Atrocious here on cable in Chch.

Been working on my websites today and was worried my VPS in LA was doing something weird. Pages take 10-20sec to load even though I can speediest >4Mbit off my VPS, so it seems like an issue with round trips for regular webpages and all their content etc.

Much faster over Telecom 3G if I turn wireless off on my iPhone.

Did some testing the other night, 95mbit UDP from .us, but TCP traffic was just a dog. Only thing we could put it down to is DPI or traffic management.

I think you're onto something there. I've just been trying proxying via an ssh tunnel to my VPS and webpages are much snappier.
