Why? I see very little reason for them to object. Neither is a majority player and even combined they still don't have the same market share as Telecom Retail.

As we enter the UFB world NZ's biggest telco in 10 years could very easily be a player that doesn't even yet exist on a drawing board.

If anything, this could be a very good move for all consumers given how it would empower Vodafone and can we really see Telecom not fighting back if Vodofone starts to get a jump?

I do agree with the Sky question. What could Vodafone do with the NZ Tbox platform and 4G?

I was having a look at one of Vodafone's DSL routers the other day and just wondering what all the USB sockets are for and noted that one of the lan points is clearly marketed "TV".

Give them a fibre network that can push more data around the country, a PVR they can connect to and a 4G network that can go head to head with what Chorus have currently.

As consumers, it strikes me we could be in for some exciting times. ...and that's what the ComCom is all about isn't it?!

I am on the VF network, it is great in the cities but movebeyond a kilometre out of the city and service patchy at best

I actually find the exact opposite. 2100Mhz signals struggle to penetrate paper. Once you leave the cities and move to 900Mhz 3G things are sooo much better.

Sounds like you need your phone looked at!

What type is it? Does it do 900MHz 3G?

I am using an iPhone 4, my son who has the same handset in my home will have 5 signal bars he is on the XT Network

Sounds like you need your phone looked at!

This is pretty critical to getting good reception on Vodafone outside of the main areas. Heck even within them in some cases! It requires your phone to be capable though, which is something the user/consumer needs to look out for.

I travel to the West Coast frequently, which is about as rural as it gets. 2-3 bars on XT. Full 3G signal on Vodafone.

Agree with the other comments - try a different device.

Heard one report that suggested TCL had 'frequencies' that would be attractive, along with the customer base and fibre infrastructure.

Are these trunking frequencies for backhaul(?), some other freqs(?), or was the commentator simply mistaken?

Are these trunking frequencies for backhaul(?), some other freqs(?), or was the commentator simply mistaken?

TCL own management rights for (off the top of my head) 20Mhz of 1800MHz spectrum and 10Mhz of 2100Mhz spectrum. Vodafone would obviously be interested in the 2100MHz for improving existing 3G as it would give them the ability to deploy quad carrier WCDMA, and at 1800Mhz when combined with their existing 10MHz of spectrum would give them 40Mhz, which would be a fantastic chunk of bandwidth for their LTE Advanced network.

Interesting, I didn't know that, But I can see how it would have made sense for them to shell out for some of the spectrum to leave themselves open for further expansion.

TCL really do have their fingers in a lot of pies and It is clear to see how most of it would integrate well with Vodafone.

I do however wonder if Telstra are also in talks Telecom over their Mobile network with the intention of putting the money from a TelstraClear sale into purchasing the XT network and branding it directly under Telstra, I don't imagine it would be difficult for them to keep a decent amount of TCL's back-haul to assist with it.

myopinion: Telstraclear provides us excellent service. I have not experienced better. On the other hand Vodafone well insert expletive here.

I wonder if they would finally retire the Paradise brand. My wife won't be impressed if they force her off @paradise.net.nz
