As per NZX release:

Telstra was approached by, and is in discussions with, Vodafone New Zealand to explore the potential sale of Telstra Corporation’s New Zealand subsidiary, TelstraClear, to Vodafone New Zealand.

Discussions are continuing and there is no certainty as to whether an agreement will be reached.

At least we might get to scrap the T-Box and get a MySky unit instead!

I don't think the Commerce Commission will like this if it goes ahead.

Well it makes more sense than Dons speculation about Telecom.....

But if it were to happen would it mean Vodafone would be any closer to single account billing????

Having been an employee at a small ISP acquired by ihug and then later by Vodafone I can only imagine it leading to a third billing system at least for a period of time.

Please note: I have a professional bias towards Vodafone.

Hopefully they would scrap the overseas call centre and improve the telstraclear side of things
hopefully also in exchanges where they have gear doubled up they can deploy that to rural towns

myopinion: You might be the only person in recent memory I can recall talking about those companies in that order.

In my opinion the entire board and management from Telstra should step down/be sacked and a new business plan should be put in place. I am not sure if I think the VF buying of TCL is a good idea because usually in the short to medium term things get worse at both companies.

Why? I see very little reason for them to object. Neither is a majority player and even combined they still don't have the same market share as Telecom Retail.

As we enter the UFB world NZ's biggest telco in 10 years could very easily be a player that doesn't even yet exist on a drawing board.

It's not like TCL would be seriously considered a competitor right now anyways, they just seem to jump around in circles.

To me the 64million dollar question is what will this mean for  competition for delivery of corporate WAN network services.  i.e. will it be a monopoly UFB solution via chorus?

I just dont see what value Vodafone would get from buying Telstraclar. Also will vodophone invest in network or just let it wither as UFB come in.
