johnr: How are people finding 3G packet data today

I have a 3G packet data sniffer dog - very good at finding it!

I think the update was being applied in Wellington last night, and 3G connections would be briefly disconnected (up to 15 minutes). Perhaps that's what happened?

I am in the Wellington CBD now and have been connected for longer than 45 minutes without drops. Speed is not improved, but the connection is stable and no problems...

Not sure if the update was pplied yet, but today I haven't been disconnected yet.

No problems for me last night. I can't be 100% sure that the problem is resolved until I've used the connection for a couple more days, but it looks promising.

Whoops; spoke to soon. I've just experienced another lockup, so it seems that the gremlins are still alive and well.

Lockup may be a different issue

Download V7.03 VMC software and run this instead of the Vodem software

But leave Vodem software installed

This will also give you access to the TXT function as well

When I say 'lockup', it was exactly the same issue that I've been experiencing for the last month or so. I'll have a go at downloading the latest software when I get time tomorrow night, though, and hopefully that might make a difference.

Hi. I have finally got around to registering for the forums after lurking for ages. I got my vodem as soon as they came out because i wanted internet on my laptop and don't have a land line. Along witht the lock up issue I was finding that my speed test results were consistantly dropping from when I first got the vodem. From 800Kbps or so down to around 150 at all times not just peak. I just downloaded vmc connect becuase I wanted a usage meter more accurate than the one in vmc lite and now i'm finding my speed test results are higher than they have ever been (1100Kbps) but still getting lockups. Im in Christchurch and have quite good 3g coverage at work (polytech) and at home in cashmere. Dont know why there is such a big speed difference between vmc connect and the included vmc lite but if you are using lite try changing.

Hi,

Where do you live? It seems the fix to this issue should have been resolved for cities in the south, but there may still be issues if you're up north.

Cheers,

johnr: ... But leave Vodem software installed ...

Does VMCLite then still startup when one plugs the Vodem in? Or does VMC Dashboard over-ride it somehow?

Thank Christ - problem appears to be solved. For now anyway...
In fact its working bloody well.  I used to always experience a bit of latency which seems to have improved remarkably.

tested in Auckland, Mt Eden.

How is everyone finding their connections now? On Sunday night I installed the full version of Vodafone Mobile Connect as suggested by Johnr, and my connection now seems to be trouble-free. It's also good that the full version of VMC allows me to connect and disconnect as I wish, unlike VMC Lite which forced me to disconnect and reconnect the Vodem's USB cable and wait ~15 seconds every time I wanted to connect.
