You have to give them credit, they've gone from 13x worse than Slingshot to only 7x worse.

So Auckland to Sydney goes via Hong Kong and Singapore. That doesn't seem ideal.

That's something Telstra/Clear aren't good at. I had intended to stay with TC when I switch to fiber, but if they can't even peer and route correctly I'll choose another provider with better policies and customer service.

well snap are kind of like telstraclear with sydney peering and better customer service.

they must have felt that sydney peering was important.  i don't know why telstraclear doesn't.

although vodafone is better for sydney peering, so with the telstraclear buyout things may improve.  the last i knew of vodafone support wasn't much better than telstraclear.

Hi,

Quick question about the proxy:

I am playing with some packaged scripts for a site I want to set up.

I started getting an error from the old drupal site (which is overkill but another story):

https://dl.dropbox.com/u/1828007/Error%20%7C%20Drupal.pdf

So I uninstalled the site, tried a new one blah blah blah. Hmmm, it won't show me the new one...

So I looked at the domain through a web proxy (zendproxy) and the new WP site shows up?

https://dl.dropbox.com/u/1828007/Dashboard%20%E2%80%B9%20My%20Blog%20%E2%80%94%20WordPress.pdf

Is this the transparent proxy messing me about or am I tired?

Jon

if you want to get around transparent proxy you have to either host your web site on an alternative port or use https.

you also have the option of using http headers to specify caching.

For dynamic content that you don't want cached you must set appropriate http headers either in the web server or code.

http://stackoverflow.com/questions/49547/making-sure-a-web-page-is-not-cached-across-all-browsers?rq=1

For static resources like js, css and images that don't change very often set headers so they are cached and just change the file names if they do need to change.

for dynamic content you don't have to set - content shouldn't be cached without caching headers.  the reason static content gets cached is because a lot of caches cache based upon the last modified time.
