Hi this is the Black Plan as I have it

Unlimited calls to any NZ mobile and landline
Unlimited calls and to any mobile and landline numbers to Australia after 31/08.
Unlimited Txts to NZ and Australia
6 GB of data
Data Angel
Roaming from overseas
Calls to voicemail free
1 Local Number on mobile
Phone insurance included for free
4 G already included
(Optional )FREE 1GB MBB +FREE 4G – for your tablet (Came as an extra SIM card which I put in my R208)
Monthly fees for the new package - $228.25 included GST.

Sorry left out Free Phone every year

Wow. That seems hugely expensive. No wonder they don't want people finding out about it.

I mean on telecom you can get:

Unlimited voice and txt, 3 GB of data, for 119. Open term, no contract. Includes 4G
Add on another 3GB for 49 to get 6GB total
Add a 1GB MBB plan for 20 bucks includes 4G

Total: $188.

I think the only main difference would be that it doesn't include Ozzie calling and I don't know how much phone insurance is, but most people don't really value it anyway. But that's a small difference for 40 bucks less per month.

Telecom roaming to main destination (Australia) is arguably better if you are a high data users at 6 bucks per day unlimited data for Australia.

Plus you getup to 30GB of data over the wifi network, which voda doesn't have

Might be even cheaper on 2D although we don't know about 4G with them yet.

Yup - as I said earlier, exceptionally poor value, even if you price up from the Red Super plan you seem to get the same combination for cheaper (if you don't mind not having insurance). They need to hire some new economists to get better optimal pricing advice!

Does this mean plan mins can be used over seas ?

If so would love to see this flow through to the red plans at some time :-)

Hi I think I get a cheaper rate in Aussie not sure yet. I needed the data so the Aussie calling is ok but the data and new phone won me over.

But my understanding is that you get a new phone every year with the Red Super plan as well (or the red regular) - new phone each year provided you sign on for two more years.

Edit:

Sorry - if you're on red regular/super you have to pay an additional $20 a month but in both the red and black packages you have to sign on to a fresh 2-year contract.

So if you're on the Red Super and you really need more data and you pay the $20 monthly fee for the new phone, then maybe it's better value to do Black since you get insurance free (based on what Rokki posted as the plan details). But that's a very stretchy value proposition. Unless you know you're going to use 6GB of data every month, it still probably makes sense to do Red Super and buy addons as needed.

I would say that Vodafone doesn't particularly strike me as a firm applying poor economics, and that there must be something in the Black plans that strengthen the value proposition... but then again, the new in-home broadband pricing plans make me think twice about giving them the benefit of the doubt!

Phoneinsure is part of the red business package so not an additional benefit of black.

I can't see a difference other than the extra data. Neither could the CSR I spoke to.

Then you shouldn't have bothered. You are better off just buying a normal plan and a data add on.

Just because somebody offers you an 'exclusive' plan that is not off the shelf, doesn't mean it is better value than what you can normally buy.

See now you have made assumptions i believe for my situation it does give me the best value i use the calling to Australia frequently i am often in Australia so having the data to use their is also a bonus. I can't be bothered with trademe for my old phone so that problem solved. It is a business phone for me so the insurance is brilliant being included. The extra 1gb of data for my R208 is great as well. I do a lot with video so the more data i can get helps me.

So the data can be used in Australia as well? I thought someone clarified that it the data can be used in NZ only. Even otherwise, I'm with Mantis - the Red Super gives you all of this (barring the Aussie data allowance) for less. That includes the 1GB for your R208 which comes with the Red Super plan. With the Red Super business someone else clarified that you get insurance.

So again, not sure you're better off unless we're missing some huge value proposition in the black plan. Perhaps if the data is portable to Aus as well, then maybe... but I'd much rather pay $2 a day with Optus in OZ and get unlimited 4G data :P
