Not quite, i didn't say i was not happy just inquiring to see if the spirit of competition was enough to match a competitors offer.

But why would vodafone match an offer that's not comparable? $75 ADSL vs $85 Cable 50 Mbps?

You are not comparing apples with apples. Completely different products/services.

Soo just wondering if that $85 naked includes phone service (voip) & would it be available for that price in all areas that are cable capable?

VOIP is only available over fibre for residential customers. Pricing for cable with a home phone is here for entry-level packages and here for the speed-conscious. :)

Cable's monthly pricing is the same for all serviceable areas (Christchurch, Pegasus, Wellington, Kapiti).

As for the unlimited ADSL vs. cable discussion, I would argue that the included installation alone is a significant advantage over the ADSL self-install. See: The sheer number of internal wiring issues across every ISP's forum on Geekzone. Unlimited cable for $85/month at 50Mbps is an absolute steal and something I never thought we'd see in my time with TCL.

On adsl you will probably get between 9-15mbps download, Or more or less. The maximum you could get is 24 which you probably wont.

On cable you will basically always get 50.

Not to mention the costs/fees to get your house hooked back up to the chorus network

UF50 Unlimited Broadband @ $85 a month is quite a good deal for 15tb a month @28days looks like i may bite the bullet and sign up after all. does that require a tech to install a docsis 3 modem?

I believe the SurfBoards are no longer actively being installed for cable broadband, and all new connections will be with the Cisco DPC3008. The SB5101U model is AFAIK still supplied with the Vodafone TV recorder (aka the STB-formerly-known-as-T-Box).

In the OPs defense, sometimes you do have an incredibly tight household budget so if he wants to go with DSL to save $10, sometimes you gotta do that.

As far as SurfBoards still being used for T-Box, I would like to see a T-Box where we don't need an external modem. They're unsightly and surely building the modem in wouldn't be hard.

I would rather see WiFi integrated in the t-box. The cable modem is only for EPG from memory. Secondly it would save power not having to run the modem just for this "service"
