So I got a text today saying an increase in data. One assumes that I will be upgraded to a red-essentials+ plan automatically. Can I then take up the option of having a second sim for data? How much does it cost for the sim etc.

Sign up to any 24 month Red+ plan, or an open term Red+ Essentials plan with a Monthly Device Payment option, and you'll get TWENTY FIVE WHOLE GEE BEES OF LTE GOODNESS for your first month to blow on all the 1080p YouTubes you like. Or other data-intensive activity. Go nuts. Stream 320k music. Use Samsung's Download Booster. Torrent things. Torrents are gooood over 4G.

You sure can (Pretty sure you could do that with Red Essentials before the Red+ upgrade too). No cost for the SIM, just pop into your local store & they'll set you up, or give us a bell on 777 & the team will fire one your way via courier. :)

You sure can (Pretty sure you could do that with Red Essentials before the Red+ upgrade too). No cost for the SIM, just pop into your local store & they'll set you up, or give us a bell on 777 & the team will fire one your way via courier. :)

Am I the only one who thinks Vodafone is nuts to do this.

Firstly, I'ld rather trade one month of 25GB for 24 months of 1GB extra data each.

Secondly, I shudder to think of the load on the Vodafone network resulting from this in the next few months. Worse I assume their data usage tracking system can't tell the difference between data over 4G, 3G or 2G so the 3G/2G network will be bearing the load as well from customers with non-4G or in non-4G areas taking advantage of this.

I think it's great Vodafone is giving more data but I think they didn't need to give away 25gigs for new customers to blow in one month. Just increasing the monthly data cap would have gone a long way for many people.

We can easily monitor how much data is moved over each technology 2G / 3G and 4G it's NSN RAN end to end not a mix and match setup

Network will cope no issues

My bad, so I assume the 25gb cap will only be available for data going over 4G?

Network will cope no issues

Why not offer 25gb as a standard plan for all then if the "network will cope no issues"? :)

The 2nd SIM for for use with a tablet - you won't be able to use it to make calls or text as far as I am aware (unless you use iMessage).

So might this be the 'killer upgrade' for IOS8 convergence, where the iPhone ipad and Mac all get calling from the same plan?

Can VF tell if the iPads' doing calling via whatever technology Apple use for convergence?

Can convergence allow the calls over different networks, or cell sites I wonder?

Looks like some serious Google in my future :)

It's a one of 25GB data bundle does not matter how it's consumed 2G / 3G / 4G

Not everyone lives in 4G coverage so would be a poor offer if it could only be consumed over 4G

25GB consumed over 2G / GPRS might be painful

Slightly off topic but I need some friendly advice here

I am on a old simple prepay plan ( were i dont have to put money in every month ) with vodafone and I am travelling in Dec this year.

I am visiting

2 countries on $5 per day
2 countries on popular destinations
3 countries on rest of the world.

Now my question is, what plan should i convert to come dec, and how much data should i buy.

I assume I will say about 1 to 1.5hr per day net - facebook, email , whatsapp, viber. I wont be calling over data.

can some one pls help

I am open to all suggestions, thanks :)

Doubtful to happen - I honestly thought they would have created a broadband module for their Vodafone system and then gradually migrate their broadband customers across by signing up new ones with the new system and then as customers modify/change their account (say, upgrade their data cap or go flat rate) they move it over the new system so that eventually over a couple of years everyone is on the new one. Oh well, I guess it is one of those things one has to 'tolerate'.

Not sure why you are saying ' Doubtful ' when I have advised you personally a few times it will happen but it's a huge project

Am I the only one confused as to why the Red Essentials+ Open Term plan didn't get a data rise? It is still 1.5GB. I mean it is nice that when my iPad comes of term in a month or so I will save $80 a month with the extra sim but if I want the same amount of data (or more) I will have to move to the $100 plan. Just seems a little odd is all.

Same here - I was hoping for more data as well given that I"m neither here nor there when it comes to minutes for voice calls where my main focus is data, data and moar data.
