Well it worked fine for my 7 digit number.

Does this mean anything?

yup. they only allow 7 digits phone number.

easiest fix is disable javascript or just don't put phone number. I did away with just email address only.

I am a TCL mobile customer but of course will be moved to Vodafone soon (in fact just got a VM from Vodafone welcoming me to their service). I wouldn't move to TCL until they had GSM service which is about a year away?

My first reaction was "who cares?" until sbiddle suggested they could offer a trans-Tasman non-roaming area. Woah, that's the ultimate in bundling differentiation! I wonder if Telecom are getting anything in return on the other side of the ditch?

If you're a Vodafone fan then this could be the start of something truly awful, akin to a nonaggression pact between Hitler and Stalin.

Super news,

I must admit the "branded" mobiles are a very nice touch! let's just hope they don't to a Telecom and lock all the functions down.

I think Telecom's GSM network is going to prove very popular!

It was very interesting today to read that the deal doesn't include Telecom's GSM network, it's a CDMA only deal. What were TCL thinking?? Any benefits they could gain from such a deal all revolve around having a trans tasman GSM network!

The way I read it, while this particular deal doesn't include the GSM/WCDMA, they haven't ruled it out for the future and they'll cross that bridge when they come to it. There are probably details in the contract that can't be finalised till the network is actually running.

Also this morning, Stuff have an article with Vodafone and TelstraClear arguing over who actually owns the 029 customer base...

Also seeing the deal is CDMA only, and if roaming is important for TelstraClears customer, then perhaps we could indeed see a change of the Australian CDMA shutdown?

Another interesting quote this morning out of the New Zealand Herald;

"This is entirely different," he said. "This is us providing a TelstraClear mobile service - our own handsets, structuring our own pricing packages and our own products to provide to our customers."
O'Brien said the company would initially have a limited range of handsets on offer but would use its relationship with its parent, Australian giant Telstra, to offer the "best phones in the market".

This would indicate that perhaps TelstraClear will have their own provisioning systems, and may prevent existing CDMA handsets in the New Zealand market place being used with TelstraClear, and vice Versa with Telecom New Zealand.

It's also interesting to see that Telstra Australia are still interested in CDMA, seeing that according to the quote above they will be providing TelstraClears handsets in the future.

if the deal doesn't cover GSM/WCDMA then I don't see myself be using TCL at all then :-( would be good to have a true single bill for our communication.

Though, if TCL can offer a family-plan (much like AT&T's iPhone Family plan) and feature-to-feature matching with Vodafone if porting number over to TCL (like fully functioning pxt, txt, data, voicemail services after porting number to different carrier) then it could be enough to entice us to move into single-bill solution with TCL.

Looks like their web development team has fixed the faulty JS with the updated bits.

Umm - Telecom use "Telstra" in Aussie anyway (i.e. the parent to TCL)! So I'm thinking - No!!

Telecom only use Telstra for CDMA Roaming, with the new Worldmode solution, you can use any carrier and pay the same rates. As for Telecom's Australian arm, AAPT they only wholesale Telstra CDMA, and fixed solutions where Powertell do not have their own network or interconnection with other partners. As for GSM/WCDMA mobile AAPT resell their own plans via Hutch 3 and Vodafone Australia.

As for the return, Telstra may offer a change in schedule of CDMA shut down and perhaps an access agreement to AAPT to its Next G mobile network.

So as for something in return, there are a few options.

As nice as it may be I can't imagine Telstra will continue to run its CDMA network (at a cost of $hundreds of millions p.a.) just so it can make roaming for a few trans-tasman customers a bit easier (as lucrative as the roaming market is). If the life of CDMA is extended it'll be purely because WCDMA coverage isn't up to scratch.

Roaming could have been part of the equation when they were making the CDMA vs WCDMA decision, but not now WCDMA is up and running.
