prevaljo: I'm a long term Telstra Cable user 15/2 speed, over the last couple of weeks access to local websites has been abysmal, accessing Stuff and the Herald has been terrible you can almost make a cup of tea while you wait for the site to open, often the browser will be unable to find the site and many times the site appears as a string of text rather than a normal site.  I have looked through Geekzone and sort of concluded the issue is related to DNS issues, have checked my DNS setting and am using 203.97.78.43 and 44 which appear to be correct, using a speedtest the performance of the link is 14.59 Meg down and 2.09 Meg up.

All websites are slow to load but local sites have always been fast.  Is this a Voda issue ?? and will it go away when they complete the upgrade referred to in this thread?

Same here, last few weeks, I get numerous websites (local and International) taking ages to load, or just loading a text page of HTML, or not loading at all, with the error message This website is currently unavailable. Sites like Stuff, NZHerald, BBC, Google.com (NZ), You Tube...

Using Google Chrome (was 64bit) but thought it might be buggy, so I switched back to 32 bit. Same with IE 11,
On two computers desk top computers, and my Acer Tablet all running Windows 8.1.1

I've done all the trouble shooting to make sure it's not my computers, network, router, etc they all come up clean.

When a website isn't available, Ping and trace route show they are available with little of no long ping times, trace route stalls etc, and downforeveryoneorjustme.com says the website is up.

This is running the browsers on the desktop in Windows 8.1.1, if I switch Google Chrome or IE 11 to Windows 8 mode (metro IOW) the problems go away for a while, then come back in Windows 8 mode as well.

I haven't reported it as a problem yet, as I'm still trying to figure out what the cause may be, and I dont like the idea of have to wait hours on the phone to have my call answered, then having to explain these problems numerous times to call centre staff who dont want to/cant help.

johnr: current upgrade work is complete

So what's been upgraded? I haven't noticed any difference in performance. (when I dont have the problems mentioned in my other post in this thread)

Or have the upgrades just been to replace old equipment that's to expensive to keep running?

I am also tempted with the cable internet 100/10MB for $85 (naked) but just wondering if you guys are able to watch netflix in superHD using PS3/PS4 using smartDNS?

No fibre in Brooklyn until 2017 :-(

Are the rumored new HSC plans still due late November / early December?

I also would be keen to know whether or not it's worth upgrading to fibre or if VF are going to be awesome-r.

Hazard to guess it won't be until January/February 2015 when UFB starts to get switched on in parts where Vodafone's HFC is present.

@JohnR
I think you can see the theme here with many loyal and long term TCL/VF cable customers becoming really sick of all the poor performance problems on the network both national- (Proxy and DNS), data metering accuracy problems, and quality of international bandwidth/capacity ; that have got worse over some months now. I think many of us are rapidly losing patience and close to jumping to other ISPs. I am tired of sitting in queues/emailing CS and logging faults to get no real fix, as it is obviously a systemic network issue. Many of us justify and defend why we should stick with what was once an awesome cable network?! Adding a 200MB cable access service will only add more traffic onto an already stressed IP backbone from what I can see, so how will that help I wonder?

My view is that the VF Tech & Social Media team on this forum need to is push these "real issues" up the tree, with some priority, internally in VF Networks and Senior product management/Russell S and get some real action on investing in fixing in VF NZ Cable/IP platforms and ISP peering, and quality international networks!  If this does not happen soon I can see lots of churn?

I would like to say that I have no issues with speed or ping. I get really fast pings and speeds even at peak time. I can easily get my line speed at peak time and under 200ms ping to NYC. I don't think the issues are high up. I think they're local. The customer service being awful doesn't help, but there are no issues with speed or quality here.

Ditto. I just wish the pricing was more uptodate... I don't want an option of unlimited if it means traffic management...
