Hey Vodafone people, could you guys tell us a bit more about what's up with cable internet recently? Why whatever do I mean? Take a look at the threads lately -packet loss, ye olde transparent proxy issues, international problems etc.

My issue is the lack of consistency of performance at the moment. It's all over the place. Funky page loading issues this afternoon for example, but cleared up half way through troubleshooting. Speed variations, page timeouts, 15Mb/s to Vodafone speedtest.net server one evening, ranging to 115Mb/s the next. Sometimes the Snap Chch speedtest server is way better than Vodafone's etc (30Mb/s vs 80Mb/s)

Yes I am checking the service status page when there are issues.
Problem is, who can complain about transient issues only getting 15Mb/s? I know it's 'up to' 130Mb/s. I would however hope my Vodafone to Vodafone speedtest server results (Lower Hutt to Wellington server) would always be above 100Mb/s on a 130Mb/s plan. Not like I'm testing against an international server, this is the Vodafone internal performance.

It's not broken so I have not logged a 'fault' it's just not on top form compared to a few months ago.

Do I share bandwidth with others in my area? But why would I get better speeds to Snap than Vodafone in that situation?

The cable (HFC) network is going thru a upgrade at the moment and is due to be completed end of October / early November, This is to offer more capacity and faster speeds

Then to top it off Monday a contractor working on something else not related to Vodafone chopped thru a fibre cable and made a right mess which took about 24 hours to resolve / fix due to the location and the weather

By faster speeds do you mean we will be able to upgrade to speeds faster than the current maximum 100/20. If so what speeds would we be looking at?

Work is been done to offer 200Mbps DL once the upgrades are complete, I am not sure when the faster speeds are going to be offered to customers

Are you able to say if faster uploads are included with the new offerings?

Thanks for the update, John.

We're in a similar boat to others that have posted here. On a 50/2 plan in Berhampore, Wellington and it's been pretty flakey the last couple of weeks. Nothing too dire (worst has been about 30 minutes of no connection at all - last Wednesday 8 October, I think), but the generally rock-solid performance of the last few years has set my expectations pretty high.

And like yesterday morning, I'm waiting 5 mins or more for webpages to load (or to show an error). I thought these problems were meant to be fixed last week? http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=40&topicid=153729

I had issues with extremely slow speeds and high packet loss for days a couple of months ago.

When I finally looked under the bed in spare room where modem + router sits (I had just been power cycling it at wall switch nearby) I found that the modem had come free from it's anchoring book and the ultra springy coax cable had wrapped itself around the antennas on the router. I unwound it and problem was immediately fixed, even for wired clients.

Possibly something to look for if you are still having issues now that the fault from last week send to have been fixed.
