WongWeiM8: Yes I think they change, from my limited understanding is that IP addresses are only leased for a short period of time and often change.

lol

limited understanding is about right

i highly doubt its going via hong kong either as my pings to hong kong are about 200ms and about 230ish to washington dc

simple physics explains that you are wrong, if i can ping a german speed test server, lets use Munich as an example:

how do you think it only takes 209ms to reach some where in the US when its firther to Germany, and that takes 290ms as shown above?

if it takes 290ms to get to germany how long will it take to get from germany to the usa? its about 80ms from london to the us east coast (washington is on the east coast) so thats 370ms with out going via hong kong its just not physically possible

the route its taking must be a pretty much direct route.

im getting about 140ms to LA so that server i would say is somewhere central USA

dont read into where you think the servers along the route are worry about the total ping time and weather its comparable to what others get on your ISP and what other ISP's are getting. THEN if its a huge different look into the trace routes

you are reading into it way way to much

Hi Team,

Seems the new route has improved now that its being announced by Wombat and Servers Australia at the various exchanges at about 8pm last night.
Before that it was via some interesting paths resulting in sub optimal performance.

Has everyone's ping / path improved?

The Wombat, Servers Australia and Vodafone teams can resolve issues quickly if we let them know via there service desks that we are seeing issues.

Cheers,
Techie

atlest for DSL, routing to wombat has always been good.

i dont get on our sydney based servers there much, but havent noticed anything amiss,As for their brisbane based servers they are solid in terms of latency.

Thanks Jase, that explains it well.

A side note: My ping tonight to the server has dropped between 56-78 on occasion.

Hi Techie, its generally a 45 minute to 90 minute wait time until your call is answered here in NZ depending on the time of day trying to talk to Vodafone. On occasion I have reached an operator quickly, last week in fact it only took 15 mins to reach 1 operator & then another 15 on hold to talk to someone on a help desk which is pretty good. They may be improving...

To add, the server admin announced that our host has been experiencing DDOS attacks which is why the server was routed through Black Lotus Communications over the last 3-4 days although I've only just read the below information now.

Seems like the issue has been resolved in a sense, thanks to everyone who contributed this time around.

Info below:

Update - Most services have been temporarily restored via BlackLotus in the United States. This will allow most customers to use their servers and manage them via the GamePanel, although with slightly deteriorated performance.

Impacted customers may notice their ping or latency increase to between 100ms and 200ms. We are aware of this, and it is due to the routing via the US. By routing traffic through the US, we are able to run more advanced analysis on the attacks as well as clean larger amounts of traffic. We are working on a solution to return domestic traffic.

We are aware that some Battlefield 3, Battlefield 4 and Battlefield Hardline services run from our SYD-15 infrastructure are still inaccessible.
Apr 9, 15:48 AEST
Update - The DNS records for the GamePanel have been switched to a backup service. This will allow customers in our other points of presence to continue managing their servers.
Apr 9, 15:42 AEST
Investigating - We are currently investigating a rise in malicious traffic that is entering our Sydney network. This traffic appears to be targeting both individual customers (who have been contacted) and core infrastructure.

Our network team is liaising with upstream providers and DDoS protection partners, such as BlackLotus, to investigate the matter. Further monitoring is being conducted, as these attacks have circumvented our usual monitoring and detection processes.

As of 1520 AEST, routing is being updated to bring services back online via BlackLotus' point of presence in the United States. Although this will increase network latency to customer servers temporarily, it will allow us to further analyse traffic and stabilise the network.

We appreciate your patience while we resolve this complex issue.
Apr 9, 15:23 AEST

We currently expect domestic routing to be restored prior to 1200 AEST tomorrow, Saturday 11th April.

Thank again.
