I play a lot of Battlefield 4, I am unashamedly a gamer from head to toe,
Tonight I was getting a ping from my clan server of approximately 190 to 210 which is extremely odd but not unheard of when using Australian servers but typically only present when an Australian Clan/server owner uses an American host that re-routes everything back to Austrailia.
I normally get a ping of around 49-51 on servers in NSW & sometimes up to 80-100 in WA.
I ran a tracert tonight & discovered I was being routed through America & Germany.
Any gamer playing a data heavy game like BF4 knows that a lot can happen in the time it takes a signal to travel that far

Here it is for reference:

Needless to say I'm pretty annoyed, I was incidentally doing a quality test from my IP address yesterday & noticed a lot of packet loss between here & the states, sometimes up to 100%.

I've noticed in an earlier post (that went way off topic) this has happened before & "johnr" was kind enough to poke the relevant people.

Would that be possible again, or could someone point me in the right direction as I don't really want to spend hours on the telephone to Vodafone & still have no answer or resolution.

Cheers.

Is this another cable issue?

Seems like if you enjoy games, don't go with cable :/

Yep I must have mistyped the IP into the whois, the pings for Germany are around 290-320.
Cheers.

ADSL is fine for gaming if you get interleaving off. You are not sending much with games.

Just dont have anything else running that uses internet at the same time.

You could alwasy get adsl on with a no contract ISP like bigpipe and see how it goes for you.

I am on Voda UFB, and their service is great for me.

Cable seems a tad rubbish for gamers though with congestion at peak hours and all?

I'm sure that routing all cable traffic through Reach rather than Vocus might play a small role too. Remember, Reach are solely interested in money - and if changing routes on the fly means more $$$, too bad ISP customers. They dont have to tell you, they just do it.

Screwing up your games. Think the policy is FY.

Cable is horribly congested, but I expect thats because the ground has been laid for all customers to move to Chorus UFB when available.

Yeah it kinda is (as I stated in my first post). The problem with older threads like that one is that it often goes so far off topic that no-one is going to notice if someone posts something new in it.

I'm not sure if Vodafone or any ISP could offer a gamer a more practical service for gamers, or if there would be enough of us to make something like that viable, so I'm assuming it's not.

Maybe waiting for Chorus to put everything in place is the only "real" solution.
