chiefie: Will, when you got yours, can you do an experiment to see if you can try out faxing? I know Paul said there's no fax capability. *hehe*

Sure chiefie, want to help me test when it arrives? PM me your fax number and i'll try to send you a test.

chiefie: All DECT cordless phones must operate with a master unit and slaves.

Not quite...

I have a Uniden 5.8GHz DECT system.  There is a Base Unit which is really just a recharging cradle with RF Transceiver and then you can have up to 4 (I think) handsets which can be plugged into whichever cradle you choose for recharging, whether it's the base unit or not, it doesn't matter.  We have 2 handsets on our system and one is waterproof.

Grant, that's what I mean, you have one transceiver (master) and the slaves (phones themselves) and of cource, there's charging station (which i don't call slaves).

Will, I'm not home normally, but when you do get your unit and on good chance, I'd be at home on most evening. Just PM me when you got the unit and I will correspond a suitable day/time to perform the test.

sleemanj: But what about incoming calls? Do you get a local number, in an area code of your choice, or is it a mobile number meaning people are gonna have to pay to call you?

Keep your own number and port it across and carry on regardless. If you want to buy a new number you're given a geographical number, so 09 in Auckland, 04 etc...

Cheers

Paul

Well I do for one.  Mostly for business purposes.  Faxing over VFX works just fine so long as it is to a number within NZ.

John, I've heard people saying faxes don't work before and they have (most of the time...)

Plus, it's not like I have a life. Nothing better to do! :P

The amount of fax-quality pieces of paper I have with WxC logo's on it is unbelievable... Wink

Lois Lane in Superman Returns, she used it to send for help!!! Maybe one day, I may have to do it when I trapped under the roof and the only communication is my fax...

For those of us with 3G coverage, are we likely to see a package deal of @Home as well as mobile broadband? or we still best to wait for naked DSL?

Yes, you are in luck.  From the Press Release on Voda's web site:

Broadband customers don’t miss out. Vodafone is offering a discounted mobile broadband rate to those who sign up for the at home plan. Customers can buy the Broadband Everyday 1GB plan from only $39.95 a month, a saving of $10 a month. Customers will need a Vodem or a Vodafone Mobile Connect Card (from $99) to access mobile broadband.
